Swapping characters in Little Nightmares 3 can give you a different gameplay experience, as the protagonists, Low and Alone, each carry a different weapon. If you’re searching for a quick character swap option, however, it’s a bit more complex than that.
The good news: You can change your character in Little Nightmares 3. The slightly-less-good news: It requires a new game, though not a complete restart. Here’s how it works.
How to swap characters in Little Nightmares 3
Whether you play Little Nightmares 3 in solo or co-op mode, you must select your character at the start of a new game. Once you’ve started a game, you can’t swap between characters within that playthrough.
However, you can create a new save file and start this new playthrough with the other character. You can play from the beginning of any chapter you’ve previously completed, so there’s no need to restart the entire game just because you’d like to switch from Low to Alone or vice versa.
For example, if you completed a playthrough as Low, but you’d like to replay the third chapter as Alone, all you need to do is go to “chapter select” in the main menu, pick Chapter 3, and then choose Alone when the character selection menu appears.
If you started your first playthrough with Low, but you’ve not completed Chapter 3 yet, you can still switch to Alone, but the farthest starting point you can pick is Chapter 2.
Should you choose to switch characters in Little Nightmares 3, don’t worry about your progress; the game offers eight save files, and you can swap between them whenever you like. Chapter progress within those save files is never lost.
Should you play as Low or Alone in Little Nightmares 3?
Not being able to swap characters on a whim makes your choice of character a bit more important, but don’t overstate the importance either. The only gameplay difference between the two protagonists is their weapon type, and since you either play with another player or a CPU companion, you won’t “miss out” on the abilities belonging to the character you didn’t pick.
Low, the boy wearing the beak mask, is equipped with a bow, whereas Alone, the girl with the pigtails, wields a wrench. This means that Low can shoot arrows and hit faraway objects, whereas Alone can smash things within melee range. Pick whichever sounds most appealing!
