Kid Cudi is on the pursuit of happiness, as his song goes — and the 41-year-old rapper has reason to feel that way at the moment.
Trackers of the coveted Billboard Hot 100 may have noticed the Grammy winner’s name appear recently, as his throwback song “Maui Wowie” has surfaced.
The classic track, which hails from the rapper’s 2008 mixtape A Kid Named Cudi, currently sits at No. 71 on the Billboard chart.
“Maui Wowie” is a tribute to the Hawaii cannabis strain of the same name and recently gained renewed popularity when it went viral on TikTok, RTTNews reports. On Sept. 5, a user of the social platform posted a video of himself hanging from a crosswalk sign while lip-syncing lyrics from the song’s chorus: “Goin’ back to Honolulu just to get that / That Maui Wowie, that Maui Wowie.”

The clip launched a trend of people singing the same lyrics while dangling from similar infrastructure around cities. The song significantly increased in streaming as a result and entered Spotify‘s daily songs chart at No. 98 and the Viral 50 in October, RTTNews also noted on Sunday, Oct. 26.
Cudi then took to social media to show his appreciation for fans skyrocketing his throwback song to the charts all these years later. “This is MEGA!!! Debuting #71 on the @billboard charts 17 years later. This is a true example of timeless music,” the music artist wrote on Instagram last week. “To all the fans who made this happen, I LOVE YOU!! Lets keep it going yall!!!”

Cudi made headlines over the summer after taking the stand to testify in the federal trial against Sean “Diddy” Combs. He later spoke out that he “did not want to do it,” but the fact that he was there to support Cassie Ventura gave him “peace.”
“When I saw her get married, I was so happy that she found someone, her person,” Cudi shared on the Call Her Daddy podcast in August. “When I saw that she was having kids, I was like, ‘Oh, this is so awesome.’ I’ve always just wanted to see her thrive and do well and be happy, ‘cause I know she was living a nightmare.”
