Boeing Announces Trio of Central Asia Deals

Boeing announced on November 6 that it has reached three agreements with carriers in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, which could total as many as 37 airplanes, including up to 23 787 Dreamliners, as airlines in Central Asia move to expand and modernize their fleets.

Boeing on Nov. 6 announced three separate commercial deals with Central Asian airlines, highlighted by Air Astana’s selection of up to 15 787 Dreamliners and Uzbekistan Airways’ firm order for eight additional 787s. Tajikistan-based Somon Air also signed a commitment for up to 14 airplanes, Boeing stated in a press release.

The Air Astana agreement is characterized as a selection for up to 15 Dreamliners to support the Kazakh carrier’s long-haul growth. Uzbekistan Airways’ order finalizes eight more 787s, adding to its existing fleet. Boeing did not specify aircraft types in the Somon Air commitment in its announcement headline; financial terms were not disclosed for any of the transactions.

If all commitments are executed, the three actions would bring as many as 37 additional Boeing jets to airlines in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, including up to 23 787 Dreamliners. Boeing described the moves as aimed at expanding international networks and renewing fleets across the region.
