At the World Travel Market (WTM) 2025, held at Excel London, Trip.com Group demonstrated its influence on the future of travel through a series of discussions and presentations. The company emphasized its commitment to integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainable practices into its services, aiming to redefine global travel norms.

Evolving Travel Motivations

During the event, Mr. Boon Sian Chai, Vice President of International Markets at Trip.com Group, discussed the changing motivations behind travel. According to the company’s collaborative report with Google, “Why Travel?”, there is a noticeable shift from travel as a means of escape to forming deeper connections. This change is reflected in the increasing demand for longer stays and experiences that are rich in culture and nature. The report also highlighted a significant rise in interest for wellness-related travel options, such as spa and sports combinations, indicating a trend towards more meaningful and rejuvenating travel experiences.

AI-Driven Personalisation and Support

The “Future of Travel Technology” session featured Mr. Andy Washington, General Manager for Europe at Trip.com Group, who introduced Trip.Planner. This new platform is designed to streamline the travel planning process by combining itinerary creation with dynamic recommendations and real-time updates, all tailored to individual preferences. This innovation is part of Trip.com’s broader strategy to enhance travel personalization through technology.

Sustainability: Turning Intent into Action

Ms. Jane McFadzean, Senior Director of Global Sustainability at Trip.com Group, addressed the gap between the growing interest in sustainable travel and actual consumer behavior. She emphasized the company’s role in facilitating more environmentally friendly travel choices through its platform, making it easier for travelers to make responsible decisions seamlessly.
