New Cast Members, Filming Begins November 2025 & Everything We Know So Far

The third season of One Piece has found its Ace and Bon Clay, with filming set to begin in late November 2025. As production ramps up for the third season, we’ll be keeping track of everything you need to know about One Piece season 3, including casting news, production updates, and more.

One Piece remains a dominant force in the world of fiction. Between the manga, anime, and its live-action adaptation, fans simply can’t get enough of Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. The franchise is in its 27th year, and before long, it will be the highest-selling media franchise ever and will soon have even outsold Superman.

The live-action adaptation of One Piece has also proven super popular with fans, new and old, and is widely regarded as one of the best English live-action adaptations of a manga. Fans eagerly await the return of One Piece with season 2 coming on March 10, 2026. For which you can find our extensive preview here.

It’s safe to say that, given what’s coming in the third season, it will be the show’s most ambitious and action-packed season yet.

Like the previous two seasons, Tomorrow Studios continues to put in excellent work with producing and adapting Eiichiro Oda’s grand pirate odyssey. However, there are more changes to the showrunner team. Ian Stokes has succeeded Matt Owens, who was co-showrunner for seasons 1-2 but departed from the series in March 2025. Joe Tracz returns as co-showrunner for season 3, who took over the role from Steven Maeda.

When did Netflix renew One Piece for season 3?

There’s a long answer and a short answer to this question.

Officially, One Piece wasn’t renewed by Netflix until August 10, 2025.

Anyone who has been following our extensive reporting on One Piece will know that the series was likely renewed months before the official announcement was made. It was arguably the world’s worst-kept secret, as multiple actors had been on record discussing the third season, not to mention once it was confirmed that season 2 would only cover up to Drum Island and Joe Manganiello already cast as Crocodile, it was always a matter of when and not if Netflix renewed for a third season.

What to expect from the third season of One Piece?

Warning: The following section contains spoilers. Proceed with caution!

The second season marked the beginning of the Straw Hats’ adventure on the Grand Line, and they faced some tough challenges after encountering the bounty hunters of Baroque Works at Whisky Peak, a giant problem at Little Garden, and recruiting a doctor on the snow-covered peaks of Drum Island.

However, the third season will be the Straw Hats’ toughest challenge yet as they set sail for the Kingdom of Alabasta, the home of Princess Vivi, and the current headquarters of the leader of Baroque Works, Mr. 0, aka Crocodile, one of the seven pirate warlords.

Crocodile has secretly engineered the ongoing civil war in Alabasta, which is suffering from a severe drought as royalist and rebel forces fight for control over the future of Alabasta.

It’s up to Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates to aid Princess Vivi and save her country from Crocodile and Baroque Works.

How much of the manga/anime will the third season cover?

At the time of writing, we have no confirmation on where in the story season 3 will end. However, given the scale of what’s to come from the remainder of the Arabasta Saga, it isn’t hard to deduce that the majority, if not all, of season 3 will cover the Arabasta Arc and will conclude just before the Sky Island Saga.

Here’s how season 3 will be covered:

Arabasta Saga

Arc Manga Chapters Anime Episodes
Arabasta Arc 155-217 92-130

As of this preview’s publication, there are 1,165 published chapters of One Piece. This means that the East Blue and Arabasta Sagas together account for only 18.6% of the manga.

By the time One Piece season 3 arrives on Netflix, there could be at least another 80 to 100 chapters published, meaning that after several years of production, the live-action adaptation will not have even covered one-fifth of the story.

Who are the cast members of One Piece season 3?

  • David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3.

New Cast Members for One Piece Season 3

So far, we’ve only had two new cast members confirmed for One Piece season 3: Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña will play Ace, and the tony-award Award-winning actor Cole Escola will play Mr. 2, aka Bon Clay.

We expect to see a bunch of new cast members announced for season 3, as the Arabasta Saga will introduce plenty of new characters.

Where is Season 3 of One Piece in Production? When Will It Be Released?

Filming Scheduled

Filming Ongoing

Post-Production

Filming for season 3 will begin on November 24, 2025. It has a lengthy production schedule, which is scheduled to end by June 19, 2026. This means the total number of days spent shooting season 3 will be 207!

Once again, production will take place in Cape Town, South Africa.

When will One Piece season 3 be released on Netflix?

Thanks to the filming schedule, we can confidently say that One Piece season 3 will not be coming to Netflix in 2026.

Judging by the timelines of seasons one and two, the release date is at least 12 to 14 months after filming wraps. Season 3 is set to finish filming by June 2026, so we expect it to be available on Netflix no earlier than June 2027, and no later than August/September 2027.

Each episode is expected to have a budget of anywhere between $15 million and $20 million. However, it has a reported budget of $18 million

Is a fourth season happening?

At the time of writing, there is no news that One Piece has been renewed for a fourth season.

It’s more than likely that Netflix is waiting to see how the second season performs before committing to further seasons. Once the second season premieres, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the show’s performance from week to week.
