'Red Dead Redemption' Coming to Netflix Games on Mobile in December

Netflix Games needed a big shot in the arm, and it has got it. Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption has just been confirmed for Netflix Games on mobile.

The main game launched on May 18, 2010, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and received critical acclaim. In 2023, the game received a significant update via a PS4 and Nintendo Switch conversion, which arrived on August 17, 2023, followed by an October performance update that enabled 60fps on PS5 through backward compatibility. Until now, this is the first time the game has been available on mobile.

This serves as the second major collaboration between Rockstar Games and Netflix, following the release of the GTA Remastered Trilogy in late 2023, featuring GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas. Sadly, the first two games left the service in late 2024, though San Andreas has remained available in the Netflix Games library.

The game arrives on Netflix with a new mobile-friendly control scheme and the Undead Nightmare DLC pack included, though multiplayer will not be available.

The official description for the game reads:

“When federal agents threaten his family, former outlaw John Marston is forced to hunt down the gang of criminals he once called friends. Experience Marston’s journey across the sprawling expanses of the American West and Mexico as he fights to bury his blood-stained past in the critically acclaimed predecessor to the 2018 blockbuster Red Dead Redemption 2.

Also included is Undead Nightmare, the iconic horror story that transforms the world of Red Dead Redemption into an apocalyptic fight for survival against a zombie horde. Available on mobile for the first time, this version features the complete single player experiences of both games, plus bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition and more.”

You can pre-register for the game now on iOS and Android, with an expected release on December 4th, 2025.

The news is welcome for Netflix’s mobile gaming library, which has dwindled over the past year as planned projects were canceled and many previously released games were pulled from the service (including over a dozen more removals planned for December). It comes as part of a major shift from Netflix in the space, with a focus on party games, big IP games (which Red Dead Redemption certainly falls under), and family titles.

It also comes as outlets report this morning that a new ESRB rating for the game has appeared, suggesting an imminent release for another updated version for modern consoles such as the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
