Percy Jackson is all grown up and heading out into the real world.

The son of Poseidon’s first season broke records for Disney+, becoming the streamer’s most successful series that wasn’t from the houses of Marvel or Star Wars.

Based on author Rick Riordan’s bestselling book series, the demigod is still juggling high school, puberty and battling gods hellbent on destruction.

As is always the case, the second series raises the stakes and sees Percy and pals head across the oceans in a dangerous quest. This time they’ve left the studio behind and filming took place on real sets.

Here’s all you need to know about the fantasy series ahead of its return.

What happens in season 2 of Percy Jackson?

The upcoming season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians adapts the second book author Rick Riodran’s best-selling series, The Sea of Monsters.

It sees the young demigods embark on a perilous quest to save their school, Camp Half-Blood, and their friend Grover.

After being betrayed by former pal Luke at the end of the first season, Percy now teams up with Annabeth, Clarisse and his newfound cyclops half-brother Tyson to stop Titan Kronos and his plan to destroy Olympus.

So, y’know. Just your typical second year at school.

Where was Percy Jackson filmed?

While most of the first season was filmed in studios, the scale of Percy’s sea-faring adventures in the second novel meant more real location sets were used this time around.

‘Season one we filmed mainly on the Volume stage, which is this huge screen as a backdrop,’ says lead actor Walker Scobell. ‘That was amazing, but it just wasn’t going to work for season two because of all the huge sets that we needed to make. So we ended up filming a lot on location this season.’

Filming predominantly took place in and around Vancouver, Canada, with the city standing in for the story’s setting of New York.

Camp Half-Blood was filmed at Mamquam, British Columbia

Located in Squamish, the Mamquam Forest Service Road is popular for its hiking trails and stunning views.

For Percy Jackson & the Olympians, the area doubled up as Camp Half-Blood, the school where Percy and his demigod pals train.

Thalia’s Tree was filmed at Loucks Farm

Thalia’s Tree stands on the Half-Blood Hill, at the perimeter of the school. Chaos ensues when it is poisoned by one of the students, weakening the camp’s defence barrier.

The tree used for filming was located at Louks Residence and farm, a historically significant property in the area of Langley that was once home to farming pioneers and is now part of the Aldergrove Regional Park.

The Chariot Circuit scene was filmed at Wood Farm, Langley

Located an hour outside of Downtown Vancouver, the vast 156-acre estate was used as a shooting location for the chariot race scenes with a full circuit track and spectator seating constructed for the shoot.

Wood Farm was also used for interior scenes, including student accommodation at Half-Blood camp, Hermes’ residence and Poseidon’s cabin.

Long Island Beach scenes were filmed at Minaty Bay

Percy’s adventure in the second series takes him to Long Island Beach.

Instead of filming in New York, production instead recreated the location at Minaty Bay, a private bay just to the south of Britannia Beach in British Columbia, Canada.

Local residents were given prior notice to the filming and that it would include the use of smoke and flame effects.

The location was previously used in the first series when it doubled up as part of Camp Half-Blood.

When are Percy Jackson episodes released?

The first two episodes of the series will be available on Wednesday, December 10.

The remaining episodes will launch weekly each Wednesday until January 18..

Take a look at the trailer below to see what’s in store.

Who is in the Percy Jackson cast?

Walker Scobell returns as Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon, alongside Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri as his best pals Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood.

Charlie Bushnell reprises his role as  Luke Castellan, son of Hermes, with Dior Goodjohn back as Clarisse La Rue, daughter of Ares, and Daniel Diemer joins the cast as Tyson, Percy’s half-brother and a cyclops.

Jason Mantzoukas guest stars as Dionysus, with Lin-Manuel Miranda and Adam Copeland returning as the gods Hermes and Ares.

Will there be a third series of Percy Jackson?

Percy fans, rejoice! A third series has already been given the greenlight and is expected to adapt The Titan’s Curse novel, which sees Percy embark on a dangerous quest to rescue friends captured by the Titan Atlas.

No word yet on when it will reach screens, but don’t expect it until 2027 given that cameras only started rolling in August.
