There’s a reason people flock to this Ontario town year-round! Collingwood is two hours north of Toronto by car, known for its beautiful Blue Mountain Resort and all the small-town charm you hope to find when you leave the city.
The downtown core here is so great that it’s recognized among Canada’s Registrar of Historic Places.
Let’s start with the downtown core, which visitors and locals know and love.
According to the town’s website, “Downtown Collingwood might just surprise you with 30 plus restaurants, 60 plus boutique shops, spas for relaxing, live music for grooving.”
Between all the yummy restaurants, historic redbrick buildings, and amazing shops, the downtown core earned its spot on the Registrar of Historic Places for Canada.
If you need help narrowing down spots to check out, some local favourites include Bent Taco, Fig and Feta, and Northwinds for a bite to eat, or Metra Fashion House, Okay Alright, and The Daisy Chain for some shopping.
There’s a brand-new restaurant that just came to the area, too. Bocado offers a gorgeous interior and a Spanish-inspired menu with something for everyone. The restaurant started out with its Prince Edward County flagship, and following its massive success, has now opened a location in the Georgian Bay area.
The town is also known as a “gateway to the South Georgian Bay region.” Sunset Point Park, Princeton Shores, Millennium Park, and Harbourlands Park/Harbour are just a few of the waterfront areas you can stroll or cozy up to watch the sun go down.
Of course, we can’t mention Collingwood without talking about its largest tourist attraction — Blue Mountain Resort.
This time of year is when it’s the busiest, so if you’re not able to get a spot on the slopes, at least stop by so you can do a little shopping and grab a bite.
Blue Mountain Resort has a lineup of other attractions as well, such as the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster, skating trails, an arcade, snow tubing and shinny.
If you’re asking me, you need more than just one day to take in all that Collingwood has to offer, so book a stay at Blue Mountain (or other local accommodations such as The Dorchester or The Westin Trillium House) and get ready for an amazing winter adventure in the town that has it all.
