I Tried the Viral ‘Sugar Cookie Fudge’ and It Was an Instant Hit

21 December 20258 Mins Read

Every holiday season brings a flood of nostalgic desserts, but every once in a while, one stops you mid-scroll on social media and reminds you that new-meets-familiar desserts are one of the best parts of the season. Sugar cookie fudge is one of those recipes.

This fudge feels familiar and festive, yet just unexpected enough to spark curiosity. It promises the flavor of sugar cookie dough in rich, sliceable candy form, which immediately got my attention. I came across this recipe shared online by content creator Jessica Burgess, and I was intrigued as soon as I heard that sugar cookie mix was part of the recipe.

I was curious to know how the two classic holiday treats would fare when they were combined. Fudge has a finicky reputation because making homemade candy can be a tricky process. Sugar cookies can also be an intense cooking endeavor. You have to make, chill and roll out the dough, cut out the shapes and then decorate the cookies once they’re baked. Whew! Sugar cookie fudge promised the delight of both treats with way less work, which sounded good to me.

When I made the recipe in my kitchen, what surprised me most wasn’t just how sweet and indulgent this treat was, though it absolutely is, but rather how quickly everything comes together. This isn’t a slow, leisurely recipe. It’s fast, hands-on and a little intense, but you end up with a dessert that tastes exactly like sugar cookie dough, only richer and more decadent, like fudge.

Ready to give it a try at your house? Read on for all the details you need to know.

What Is Sugar Cookie Fudge?

Sugar cookie fudge is a soft, dense fudge made to mimic the flavor and sweetness of classic sugar cookie dough. Instead of cocoa or peanut butter, this version relies on sugar cookie mix and white chocolate to create its signature taste. The result lands somewhere between traditional fudge and edible cookie dough, with a texture that’s creamy but substantial.

Unlike baked sugar cookies, this dessert doesn’t rely on flour structure or the oven. Instead, it uses heat and constant stirring to bring the ingredients together into a thick, silky mixture that firms up as it chills. Once set, it can be sliced into bite-sized pieces or larger squares, depending on how indulgent you want to be.

This fudge is designed to be rich and a little goes a long way, as with most candy. The flavor is unmistakably sugar cookie—sweet and buttery—with a vanilla-infused taste that feels festive and familiar.

You can find lots of variations on this recipe on social media, but Burgess’ version jumped out to me and, with almost 250K views, it seems that I’m not the only one drawn to her recipe.

Ingredients for Sugar Cookie Fudge

The ingredient list for sugar cookie fudge is short, which is another part of its appeal. You’ll need sugar cookie mix (I used gluten-free), butter, evaporated milk, granulated sugar, marshmallow fluff, white chocolate chips, vanilla extract and holiday sprinkles.

This is a good idea no matter the recipe, but it’s an especially good idea to have all of your ingredients out and measured before you make sugar cookie fudge. The process is very hands-on and you need to be at the stove pretty much the entire time, so having everything ready to go is one of the keys to success.

No Bake Sugar Cookie Fudge 🎄🍬 Creamy, sweet, and tastes just like a frosted sugar cookie… but no oven needed. The easiest Christmas treat to add to your holiday trays. ✨🤍 Save this one! 12 tablespoons unsalted butter ▢1 cup sugar cookie mix sifted ▢¾ cup evaporated milk ▢3 cups granulated sugar ▢11 ounces white chocolate chips ▢7 ounces marshmallow fluff ▢1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract ▢3 tablespoon holiday sprinkles Instructions First, line a 9×13 baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside. Next, melt the butter in a large saucepan over low heat. To the melted butter, add the sugar cookie mix and whisk it until it is completely blended. Now, add the evaporated milk and continue to whisk and cook over medium heat until the mixture is hot. Then, add the granulated sugar and continue to whisk and cook over medium-high heat for about 5-7 minutes until the mixture comes to a roiling boil. Add the white chocolate chips and stir until the chips have melted and incorporated into the mixture in the saucepan. Now, add the marshmallow fluff and vanilla extract. Continue to whisk until all of the ingredients are melted and blended and the mixture is smooth. Finally, pour the white chocolate fudge into the prepared baking sheet and sprinkle the sprinkles over the top of the fudge. Refrigerate the fudge for 2-4 hours or up to overnight. Once the fudge has hardened completely, use a sharp knife to cut it into about 40 bite sized pieces. Serve and enjoy! chrchristmastreatslholidaybakingbnobakedessertssfestivebakingralrecipes

How to Make Sugar Cookie Fudge

You can get the full and complete recipe on Burgess’s site, but I’ll walk you through the process so you can see how things come together. As I mentioned above, sugar cookie fudge comes together quickly, so preparation is key. Start by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside. Once the stove is on and your ingredients go in, there’s little time to pause.

Melt the butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Once melted, add the sugar cookie mix and whisk until fully blended and smooth. Add in evaporated milk, heating while whisking constantly until it becomes hot and cohesive.

Next, pour in the granulated sugar and increase the heat so that everything comes to a rolling boil while you whisk. This stage requires attention and arm strength, as the mixture thickens quickly.

Once the mixture reaches the right consistency, stir in some white chocolate chips until melted. Marshmallow fluff and vanilla extract come last. Whisk them in and stir the fudge mixture until it’s smooth and glossy.

Pour the mixture into the prepared pan, spread evenly, and top with holiday sprinkles. Refrigerate until fully set, at least two hours, before slicing and serving.

My Honest Thoughts on Sugar Cookie Fudge

This recipe is an arm workout, no question. The mixture gets thick before it turns silky, and constant whisking is non-negotiable. I also suspect mine didn’t quite reach the ideal temperature, which resulted in a softer candy. But I didn’t mind one bit.

The texture landed somewhere between traditional fudge and cookie dough. It’s softer than classic fudge but denser than raw dough. Flavor-wise, it absolutely nails sugar cookie dough, sweet and buttery through and through. It’s very sweet, which means small portions are more than enough, but that’s to be expected when you’re making fudge.

I cut mine into larger pieces than Burgess did, and even one square felt indulgent. My kids loved it immediately, which came as no surprise. It’s rich and undeniably delicious. I fully intended to reheat it to adjust the texture, but after tasting it, I decided to leave it exactly as it was.

I would absolutely make this dessert again, and I think it’s going to make a great gift for friends and neighbors.

4 Tips For Making Sugar Cookie Fudge

1. Get ready

This recipe really benefits from organization. I know I’ve mentioned that a few times already, but measuring all of the ingredients ahead of time really makes the process far less stressful. Constant whisking is essential, especially once the mixture begins to boil, as it thickens rapidly and the fudge can seize if neglected.

2. Mind the temperature

Also, keep in mind that temperature matters. Not allowing the mixture to cook long enough can result in softer fudge that doesn’t fully set. You’ll need to cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it comes to a rolling boil, which will take about 5 minutes. That said, slightly softer fudge isn’t a failure. It simply creates a different texture.

3. Decorate it your way

You can use whatever combination of sprinkles you like best. You can also make this treat for other holidays, swapping out the holiday sprinkles for colors that fit the occasion. (I think Easter sprinkles would be really cute!)

4. Stash it smartly

To keep the candy fresh, store sugar cookie fudge in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will hold well for several days and tastes just as good straight from the fridge, as I can attest from personal experience. You can also freeze the fudge, where it will keep for about three months. Just wrap it well in wax paper and foil, then put it in a zip-top bag. Let it thaw on the counter for a few hours before serving.
