Light the Night at Muskoka Lakes Farm and Winery is a magical skating experience in Ontario, just a drive away from the city. Glide along an ice trail lined with over 400 tiki torches, guiding your path. If you’re looking for the ultimate winter adventure, you’ve found the best thing.
In the fall, its cranberry marsh is the talk of the town, a favourite for the annual Cranberry Plunge. Here you can wade through a sea of floating cranberries! But in the winter, it offers one of the most picturesque winter activities in Ontario, and its evening portion only happens once a week.
It is slated to open on Dec. 27, so now is the perfect time to plan your trip up north.
The ice trail opens daily at 11 a.m. However, the Light the Night experience only takes place on Saturdays from 6 to 9 p.m. According to Muskoka Lakes Farm and Winery, it’s a 1.2 km loop that surrounds 12 acres of cranberries.
You’ll have a forest on one side and cranberry beds on the other, and it’s quite a sight to see.
You can glide your way along the ice trail as glowing fires illuminate your path. And once you’ve had your fun on the ice, you can warm up with hot mulled wine or hot cran-apple cider. Now THAT sounds magical.
It’s important to note that the use of the outdoor ice is dependent on the weather, and conditions can change throughout the day. Pro tip: check out the website’s “What’s on Now” page for daily info on the ice trail.
Walk-ins are welcome (if not sold out), but if you want to plan ahead, you can book your evening up to an hour ahead of arriving.
How much is the ice trail and Light the Night?
According to organizers, the ice trail is $17 on weekdays and $20 on weekends and holidays. On Saturday nights, it is $30 per person. Rentals are $15 a day, too, but get there early as they can’t be reserved.
