‘The Great Flood’ Is A Big Hit and ‘Emily in Paris’ Season 5 Debuts Strong

The weekly Netflix top 10s are in! This week covers the top 10 shows and movies in both English and non-English languages for the week ending December 21st, 2025, and there are quite a few interesting debuts from last week’s new releases and ongoing stories we’re tracking. So here’s your weekly report. Let’s break it all down!

As always, let’s first check in with how this week’s top 10 compares against prior weeks, dating back to June 12th, 2023:

  • English TV: 71,100,000 (Rank 9 of 131 weeks)
  • English Film: 73,900,000 (Rank 68 of 131 weeks)
  • Non-English TV: 32,800,000 (Rank 37 of 131 weeks)
  • Non-English Film: 44,900,000 (Rank 34 of 131 weeks)

Note: If you want to see our breakdown of the boxing viewership for Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua, we did that in a separate article over here. Long story short, it falls well below both the Canelo vs. Crawford fight from September and the Paul vs. Tyson fight back in November 2024, but above Taylor vs Serrano.

We should also call out KPOP Demon Hunters again, which is now in its 27th week in the top 10s and hit over half a billion views, an achievement noted by Netflix socials.

1. Emily in Paris Is Still Going Strong

Emily In Paris Returns For Season 5Emily In Paris Returns For Season 5

Emily is back and still going strong. Debuting with 78.2M viewing hours and 13.5M views, it wasn’t quite enough to untopple Rowan Atkinson with his four-part miniseries still taking the top spot, but it comes in a close second.

Stacking up the show’s return against other returning Netflix shows from the past year or so, you can see the opening week numbers perform quite favorably, ranking between My Life with the Walter Boys S2 and The Night Agent S2. Not bad at all, five seasons in.

Netflix Viewership Data – 1 Week Analysis

Title Cumulative Views (1 weeks) Rank
Ginny and Georgia – Season 3 17,600,000 1
XO Kitty – Season 2 14,200,000 2
The Night Agent – Season 2 13,900,000 3
Emily in Paris – Season 5 13,500,000 4
My Life with the Walter Boys – Season 2 11,800,000 5
YOU – Season 5 10,100,000 6
Nobody Wants This – Season 2 8,600,000 7
Virgin River – Season 6 8,100,000 8
The Witcher – Season 4 7,300,000 9
The Recruit – Season 2 5,900,000 10
The Diplomat – Season 2 5,600,000 11
The Diplomat – Season 3 4,800,000 12
Sweet Magnolias – Season 4 4,000,000 13
FUBAR – Season 2 2,200,000 14

Looking back at prior seasons, you can definitely see a decline season over season. We can’t compare with season 4, given that it was released across two volumes, so the views were higher earlier on and the runtime was shorter, making direct comparisons harder.

Netflix Viewership Data – 1 Week Analysis

Title Cumulative Views (1 weeks) Rank
Emily in Paris – Season 3 21,400,000 1
Emily in Paris – Season 2 21,200,000 2
Emily in Paris – Season 5 13,500,000 3

We’re currently predicting a likely renewal given these numbers so far, but the show does seem, at least narratively, to be coming to a close, so we’ll see whether or not season 6 will be its last.

2. The Great Flood Breaks a Netflix Record

Lots of positive buzz over the weekend for The Great Flood, the new Korean sci-fi movie that’s become an instant streaming hit and is now carrying the accolade of being the “Best launch for an international film released on a Friday since the beginning of the ratings era.” Huzzah.

It debuted at number 1 with 50.6M hours watched, equating to 27.9M views. Stacked up against prior Korean movie launches, it’s pulled out quite an incredible launch:

Netflix Viewership Data – 1 Week Analysis

Title Cumulative Views (1 weeks) Rank
The Great Flood 27,900,000 1
Ballerina 13,000,000 2
Carter 12,200,000 3
JUNG_E 11,600,000 4
Officer Black Belt 8,300,000 5
Mantis 7,000,000 6
Yaksha: Ruthless Operations 6,000,000 7
Believer 2 5,600,000 8
Unlocked 5,400,000 9
20th Century Girl 4,000,000 10
My Name is Loh Kiwan 3,100,000 11
Good News 1,700,000 12
Wonderland 1,500,000 13

3. Culinary Class Wars Debuts Stronger in Season 2

Staying with South Korea, another win. The intense reality cooking show is back and is finding audiences all around the world. With seasons 1 and 2 both debuting on a Tuesday and maintaining a somewhat similar release cadence, we can compare them to season 1 and say viewership has grown. This year, we’ve seen most returning reality series going downwards in viewership, so this is a welcome change.

Netflix Viewership Data – 1 Week Analysis

Title Cumulative Views (1 weeks) Rank
Culinary Class Wars – Season 2 5,500,000 1
Culinary Class Wars – Season 1 3,800,000 2

4. Did Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery Pick Up The Pace?

Last week, we reported how the new Knives Out movie was around the middle of the pack of new 2025 movie releases. Has anything substantially changed in week 2? Not really. It saw a 3% rise in viewing hours, from 49.2M to 50.8M, and will likely start dropping next week. Here’s how it charts against the 2025 releases thus far:

Netflix Viewership Data – 2 Week Analysis

Title Cumulative Views (2 weeks) Rank
Back in Action 93,600,000 1
Happy Gilmore 2 87,500,000 2
STRAW 74,200,000 3
Frankenstein 62,900,000 4
Havoc 56,300,000 5
A House of Dynamite 53,700,000 6
The Life List 53,600,000 7
The Old Guard 2 53,500,000 8
My Oxford Year 51,800,000 9
The Woman in Cabin 10 51,300,000 10

Nonnas 35,300,000 16
La Dolce Villa 33,900,000 17
KPop Demon Hunters 33,400,000 18
Plankton: The Movie 27,700,000 19
In Your Dreams 24,900,000 20
Fear Street: Prom Queen 19,200,000 21
Jay Kelly 14,100,000 22
The Twits 14,000,000 23
Train Dreams 13,100,000 24
Ballad of a Small Player 11,800,000 25

Put more starkly, stacking the line graphs of Glass Onion and Wake Up Dead Man, you can see that Glass Onion had a far bigger boost in its second week. Not sure what to say about this one. I’m disappointed in all of you.

5. Troll 2 Will Almost Certainly Miss Out On All-Time Top 10

On the subject of underperforming Netflix sequels, we’ve got bad news for Troll. Ad Vitam and AKA, two movies on the lower end of Netflix’s all-time most-watched non-English movies, are now outperforming the long-awaited sequel to the Norwegian action movie. So we’re sorry to say, Troll 2, barring a big jump over the Christmas period, won’t be getting a spot on the all-time most-watched list.

6. The Netflix Christmas 2025 Rom-Com Battle – Who Won?

Netflix had four major new rom-coms for the holiday season, and it turns out the biggest was saved for last. My Secret Santa trailed Champagne Problems in the opening couple of weeks but has now firmly taken the lead. Yes, we can crown Alexandra Breckenridge and Ryan Eggold the winners of the Christmas movie crown for 2025.

7. Raat Akeli Hai – The Bansal Murders & 10DANCE both debut low

A very slow start for Raat Akeli Hai – The Bansal Murders, the latest Friday movie release from India, with the lowest debut of any film for the last couple of years.

Netflix Viewership Data – 1 Week Analysis

Title Cumulative Views (1 weeks) Rank
Jewel Thief The Heist Begins 7,800,000 1
Maharaj 5,300,000 2
Do Patti 5,000,000 3
Dhoom Dhaam 4,100,000 4

Amar Singh Chamkila 2,400,000 10
Bhakshak 2,400,000 11
Raat Akeli Hai The Bansal Murders 2,300,000 12

Moving to Japan, we’ve had a very slow start for 10DANCE, the new LGBTQ+ romance dance movie released on a Thursday. Compared to other Asian releases on a Thursday, you can see it also ranks at the bottom of the pack.

Netflix Viewership Data – 1 Week Analysis

Title Cumulative Views (1 weeks) Rank
The Shadow Strays 10,600,000 1
Demon City 9,600,000 2
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead 8,200,000 3

The Whole Truth 5,700,000 5
City Hunter 5,300,000 6
10DANCE 2,600,000 7

8. Murder in Monaco Also Debuts Low

Sadly, another low debut to report here with the new true-crime documentary feature from the UK covering billionaire banker Edmond Safra, who was found dead in his penthouse, and the puzzling circumstances surrounding this wealthy financier’s murder. With only 6.3M views in its opening week, it compares in towards the bottom alongside other doc debuts on a Wednesday:
