‘Olympo’ Canceled at Netflix; Won’t Return for Season 2

Olympo was one of Netflix Spain’s biggest swings of 2025, but its time on Netflix has been cut short, as the series has been canceled and will not be returning for a second season, What’s on Netflix has learned.

Released on June 20th, the Spanish YA series is set at the Pyrenean High Performance Center, home to Spain’s most promising young athletes. This drama explores how far they are willing to push themselves to reach the top and what it costs to stay there. The series stars Clara Galle, María Romanillos, Nuno Gallego, Nira Osahia, Agustín Della Corte, Najwa Khliwa, Juan Perales, Martí Cordero, and Andy Duato, and is directed by Ibai Abad, Ana Vázquez, Marçal Forés, and Daniel Barone.

First reported by the Spanish social media account Previously Serie, they stated back in mid-December that (translated to English), “Clara Galle and Agustín Della Corte have not received a call to return 6 months after its release,” further adding, “We can confirm that the teams are already involved in other projects.” That’s now backed up by official confirmation from Netflix and additional reporting courtesy of TuSubtitulo.

We have reached out to Netflix for further comment.

The news comes in contrast to reporting at the time of release, when creators had hinted at more to come, and one outlet had reported that the series had been given a speedy renewal. When we reached out to Netflix at the time, a representative said the reporting of a second-season pickup was inaccurate and that an official decision had not been made.

The show didn’t perform overly poorly by any stretch of the imagination. It spent 5 weeks in the global top 10s, picking up 113.3 million viewing hours and 17.7 million completed views. Reviews were mixed among both critics and audiences, and the series seemed to cast a wide net, appearing in the daily top 10s of 78 countries, and spent over 36 days in the Spanish daily TV top 10s. We had previously noted that international renewals often rely on good performance in their home country for over 30 days, but perhaps they’re looking beyond those first few weeks.

Charted against other releases from Netflix Spain, you can see it ranks around many other titles that did go on to score a renewal. Usually, when the hours and views look OK, it comes down to another factor, like completion rate, as to why Netflix opted out of producing future seasons.

Netflix Viewership Data – 2 Week Analysis

Title Cumulative Views (2 weeks) Rank
Berlin – Season 1 33,600,000 1
Welcome to Eden – Season 1 16,100,000 2
Breathless – Season 1 10,200,000 3
Olympo – Season 1 10,100,000 4
Sky High: The Series 9,100,000 5
Gangs of Galicia – Season 1 8,900,000 6
Wrong Side of the Tracks – Season 1 8,500,000 7
Elite – Season 7 8,300,000 8
The Ladys Companion 7,500,000 9
Intimacy 7,300,000 10
Elite – Season 8 6,300,000 11
1992 5,700,000 12
Holy Family – Season 1 5,500,000 13
Rotten Legacy 4,900,000 14

It’s been a rough year for Netflix Spain, it must be said, with a couple of high-profile cancellations and shows earlier in the year. It began with The Lady’s Companion, which came from frequent collaborators Gema R. Neira and María José Rustarazo, and was followed by the shock cancellation of Billionaire’s Bunker, the show from Money Heist creators Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato. Even returning shows like The Snow Girl and Breathless struggled to maintain viewership with their newer seasons, although their futures are still up in the air. They had better luck with some of their limited series offerings for 2025, however.

Olympo joins Netflix’s 2025 cancellation list, which now spans more than 25 titles. In reality, though, it’s probably slightly more, given that many cancellations are done behind closed doors without official confirmation to the public.

Are you disappointed that Olympo won’t be returning for season 2? Let us know in the comments.
