If you’re the kind of traveler who looks out the window while boarding—or secretly loves spotting special airplane paint jobs—JetBlue just gave you something new to watch for. The airline has unveiled a Boston-inspired aircraft nicknamed “Wicked Blue,” and it’s basically a love letter to Beantown… at 30,000 feet.
The specially painted JetBlue Airbus A320 celebrates more than 20 years of flying in and out of Boston Logan International Airport, a city that’s become one of the airline’s biggest hubs. The plane features a postcard-style design with “BOSTON” stretched across the fuselage, each letter filled with local icons including the Zakim Bridge, lobster, the MBTA and even the Massachusetts State House.

JetBlue president Marty St. George summed up why the airline went all in on the design at its debut event, saying:
“Wicked Blue embodies our pride in the Boston community, crewmembers and customers who have helped build JetBlue into the airline we are today. Boston is one of our most important markets with a huge loyalty base, and it’s a key driver of our JetForward strategy to offer the best East Coast leisure network. We wanted to say thank you to Bostonians who’ve supported us for over 20 years, and what’s more fitting than sending our pride for Boston flying all over our network?”

JetBlue hasn’t made Wicked Blue a lone tribute—it joins a growing fleet of aircraft wearing city- and culture-inspired designs. The airline already has special liveries honoring its partnerships with Boston sports teams like the Bruins, Celtics and Red Sox, as well as a fan-favorite Dunkin’-themed jet, all celebrating the city’s identity and JetBlue’s deep ties to Logan. With about 30 special liveries in its fleet, these unique jets have become a fun tradition for plane spotters and Boston travelers alike, each one giving passengers another reason to look up at the gate before boarding.
For aviation fans and livery collectors, this is exactly the kind of jet you try to “collect” by spotting or flying on. And even if you’re not deep into plane-spotting culture, it’s a fun surprise if you happen to board—or see taxi past—the brightly decorated Airbus A320.

With dozens of nonstop routes and even a new Boston BlueHouse lounge planned for the future, Boston flyers can expect to see a lot more blue in the skies. As St. George put it, the airline isn’t just flying through Boston—it’s all in.
So next time you’re headed to New England, keep an eye on the gate. Your plane might just be the cute one everyone’s taking photos of.
