New Releases on Netflix This Week & Top 10 Movies & Series: January 2nd, 2026

Happy New Year from all of us here at What’s on Netflix! If you’re looking to chill this weekend after a busy festive period, there’s plenty to watch on Netflix, with over 150 new titles having landed over the past week. While many of those titles are archive WWE titles (which we’ve covered elsewhere), there were also plenty of other movies and series to enjoy. Below, you can find a list of everything new added and what’s been trending in the US top 10s for the past week, too.

Lots still to look forward to throughout the remainder of January 2026, as we’re tracking here. Now, on the assumption that you’ve already watched all 2 hours of the Stranger Things season 5 finale, here are some other things we think you should be checking out this weekend:

What to Watch on Netflix This Weekend

Only the Brave (2017)

Before he took to the skies with Top Gun: Maverick and was on track for F1, director Joseph Kosinski delivered this harrowing, visually spectacular, and deeply emotional tribute to real-life heroism. Based on the true story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, Only the Brave centers on a local unit of firefighters who fight to become an elite, certified team.

Led by the rugged superintendent Eric Marsh (Josh Brolin) and featuring a standout performance by Miles Teller as a recovering addict seeking redemption, the film follows their brotherhood, sacrifice, and the fateful Yarnell Hill Fire. It is a gritty, respectful, and heart-wrenching drama that avoids Hollywood melodrama in favor of raw authenticity.

Distributed by Sony Pictures, that usually means the title is unavailable on Netflix’s ad tier, but believe it or not, that’s not the case here, so everyone can watch.

Mr. Malcolm’s List (2022)

One of the most anticipated releases for the month is undoubtedly the long-awaited return of Bridgerton, which is back for its fourth season. But that’s not until the end of the month, and if you’re already rewatching, you may be looking for something else to fill the gap until its volume 1 returns. Thankfully, Mr. Malcolm’s List was also among the myriad of new movie additions for January 1st.

Released in theaters four years ago, the movie brings to life Suzanne Allain’s novel, telling the story of a young woman who helps her friend seek revenge on a potential romantic suitor. It’s got much of the DNA that makes Bridgerton so special, but mixed in with a pretty intriguing plot and excellent performances, particularly from its leads, Freida Pinto and Sope Dirisu.

We were shocked by how much traction and attention our article on this canceled NBC show coming to Netflix got. It’s clearly got a big and dedicated audience. Hopefully, that translates into a big audience on Netflix, and, wishful thinking, it finds a big enough audience to justify a renewal of some kind, potentially. We’re getting ahead of ourselves there a little, but never say never.

Never checked out the series? It aired between 2023 and wrapped up relatively recently in mid-2025. It sees Shanola Hampton (Shameless) play Gabrielle “Gabi” Mosely, a public relations specialist and crisis manager who works as part of a team that finds missing people who have been overlooked by the traditional system. It’s a procedural, and it’s a super-easy binge, despite being 35 episodes.

Wrath Of Man Best New Movies On Netflix December

Lots of movement in the Netflix movie top 10s this week, given the amount of new arrivals and higher viewing activity over the holidays. Winning out, though? Jason Statham in Wrath of Man, one of the many MGM titles making their way onto Netflix as part of a new licensing pact. Rounding out the top 3 is Wake Up Dead Man, the Knives Out 3 movie, which just got some fresh new assets in the Netflix app, brightening it up. Also, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse made a surprise return to the US and immediately started hoovering up points.

No surprise that Stranger Things took home the most points in the top 10s this week with the return of volume 2 on Christmas Day and volume 3, aka the finale, on New Year’s Day. It beat out the surprise Dave Chappelle special which dropped as a surprise on Christmas Day.

You’ll also see a couple of the ever-popular fireplaces in the top 10s this week as people put it on in the background while hosting family and friends (or just wanting to chill!).
