'Harry Potter' Star Reprising His Role Says New Series is 'Very Faithful' to Books

Who’s your favorite character from the Harry Potter books? Or movies?

In addition to the beloved wizards and witches at the center of all eight films, each scene was chock full of juicy supporting players. And one renowned actor actually pulled triple-duty over the course of the original movie saga, playing three different characters throughout Harry’s on-screen journey.

Added to that, Warwick Davis is reprising one of his film roles for the all-new series that’s currently in production. And now, the longtime performer, 55, recently provided some insight into the highly anticipated new show — and how it differs from the films.

The BAFTA honoree returns as Professor Flitwick — a character that originated for the films specifically — and spoke out that the forthcoming HBO episodes are “very faithful adaptations” of the J.K. Rowling fantasy book series, Deadline reports.

“I’m working on it at the moment, but I can’t really tell you anything other than we’re retelling those wonderful stories but with more depth and detail than has been seen before,” Davis told Times Radio. “They’re very faithful adaptations of the book.”

Davis continued, “We’re obviously telling the same story so there are similar moments that we’re experiencing as actors on the set. But it’s weird being back in the same studios again, doing it all again, because Leavesden is where we shot the films.”

Davis also portrayed a goblin bank teller and the voice of Griphook in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001), ultimately appearing in all eight of the film adaptations. While he reprises his role as Flitwick in the upcoming series, Leigh Gill will play Griphook, Deadline also noted on Friday, Jan. 2.

Davis made headlines recently when he became an Office of a the British Empire as part of King Charles‘ New Year Honors for 2026. “This is the best thing that’s ever happened to me — and I’ve been in Star Wars,” he said, per the BBC.
