Kathy Bates Shows Off Slim Figure at Critics Choice Awards After 100-Pound Weight Loss

Kathy Bates is celebrating her Critics Choice Awards nomination!

The 77-year-old actress stepped out at the 31st Annual Critics Choice Awards on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 4), held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif. This year, Bates is up for the award for Best Actress in a Drama series for her starring role on Matlock.

Bates, who previously took home Critics Choice awards back in 1999 and 2003, hit the star-studded black carpet in a chic pantsuit and jewel-encrusted flats. She also posed arm-in-arm alongside her new Matlock co-star, Henry Haber.

While Haber hasn’t made his debut on the show just yet, he’s set to appear in the second half of season 2, where he’ll play Hunter, “a younger associate from the floater pool who is a total bro,” according to Deadline.

Meanwhile, Bates showed off her weight loss transformation on the carpet, having lost roughly 100 pounds over the past few years.

Her health journey began back around 2017 when she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and started implementing lifestyle changes, including improvements to her diet and increasing exercise in her daily routine. She’s also been open about her use of a GLP-1 medication as a part of her ongoing wellness journey.

“[Diabetes] runs in my family, and I’d seen what my father had gone through. He had had a leg amputation. One of my sisters is dealing with it very seriously, and it terrified me. It scared me straight,” Bates told People earlier this year. 

She later added, “But now that I’ve been able to get really healthy, I can move, I can breathe, I can have fun.”
