Lifx launches a smart mirror and a $30 dimmer switch that can control smart bulbs

5 January 20264 Mins Read

Lifx, one of the original smart lighting brands, is launching a Matter-enabled smart mirror, its first US in-wall dimmer, and a cheaper line of bulbs and light strips starting at around $12. The company, which announced the new products at CES this week, says it plans to upgrade its entire current generation of devices to support Matter-over-Thread in addition to Wi-Fi later this year.

The new Lifx SuperColor mirror features front and backlighting with Makeup Check and Anti-Fog modes. It comes with three configurable buttons that let you control other smart home devices directly from the mirror. It supports Matter, so you can connect it to Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and other platforms.

The 36-by-22-inch mirror can be mounted horizontally or vertically, supports hardwiring or plug-in installation, and offers individually controllable front and backlighting with full-color effects similar to Lifx’s Lunar lamp and ceiling light. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but Lifx says it will launch in Q2 2026.

The $30 Lifx Smart Dimmer is also coming in Q2 and is an in-wall, paddle-style switch with four customizable buttons, a gradient light bar, and Matter support. Each button can be configured with single, double, or long-press gestures to trigger other Lifx lights or smart home scenes via a compatible Matter platform.

In addition to standard LED, incandescent, and halogen lightbulbs, the switch can also control Matter-compatible dimmable smart bulbs — meaning you don’t have to choose between smart switches and smart dimmable color lighting. It requires a neutral wire and is compatible with three-way setups.

In the same vein as its main competitor, Philips Hue, Lifx is launching a lower-cost line of its smart lights.

The Everyday line joins its premium SuperColor line and retains the brand’s 90 CRI color accuracy, but with lower RGB output than the premium offerings, according to Mark Hollands, Lifx’s chief technology officer.

The first products in the line are the Everyday Bulb (A19), which is an 800-lumen, full-color, and tunable white bulb, offering a 2,700-to-6,500-Kelvin range. The bulbs are available now at Amazon and Lifx.com for $24 for a two-pack.

A 20-foot Everyday Lightstrip with 24 addressable zones is coming this month for $39.99. The strip’s controller also includes a configurable four-button controller that can trigger scenes on any Matter-compatible platform.

All the new products and Lifx’s current line support Matter-over-Wi-Fi, but later this year, an OTA update will enable the option to switch to Thread, thanks to a dual-protocol chip. Thread is one of the networking protocols Matter uses.

“Wi-Fi is the lowest common denominator for connectivity … [Thread] is still building momentum.”

Lifx says it hopes this will make it easy for customers to buy and set up devices, while giving them the option to switch to Thread later if they decide they need the protocol’s broader mesh coverage or want to reduce congestion on their Wi-Fi network.

“Wi-Fi is the lowest common denominator for connectivity, and while Thread has made progress in standardization and reliability, it’s still building momentum,” says Hollands. Offering both means that customers can buy and set up the product without a Thread network and move to Thread later if they want its benefits.
