It might not feel like much, but Vancouver’s first 5 p.m. sunset of the year is coming up before the end of January. As the days continue to get longer and longer, the countdown to later sunsets and the start of spring begins.
According to Time and Date, the sun will set at 4:59 p.m. on Jan. 26 and at 5:01 p.m. on Jan. 27, 2026, so mark your calendars, and let’s hope for clear skies.
The Winter Solstice on Dec. 21, 2025, marked the shortest day of the year, with a sunrise time of 8:05 a.m. and a sunset time of 4:16 p.m. With that behind us, we can look forward to a couple of minutes more of sunlight with each passing day.
By the last day of January, the sun will set at 5:07 p.m., with 6 p.m. sunsets beginning in early March.
Once Daylight Saving Time officially starts on Sunday, March 8, 2026, we will spring forward an hour, which means the sun will set at 7:07 p.m. and later.
