Just weeks after The Housemaid debuted in theaters, it has been announced that a sequel was already in the works.
The Housemaid, which is based on Freida McFadden’s book of the same name, stars Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried.
On January 6, Variety reported that Lionsgate has greenlit a sequel to The Housemaid. The media outlet shared that Sweeney is already set to return, as is director Paul Feig.

The sequel will be titled The Housemaid’s Secret, which is also the name of the second book in McFadden’s series.
The upcoming film “has been in development for the past few months,” according to Variety. The studio hopes to begin filming in late 2026.
Fans Cannot Wait to See ‘The Housemaid’ Sequel
Official news of a sequel to The Housemaid isn’t entirely unexpected. McFadden wrote three books in The Housemaid series, which includes The Housemaid’s Secret and The Housemaid’s Wedding.
Moviegoers who saw The Housemaid know that there were some changes made to the movie’s ending. The changes wouldn’t necessarily have a big impact on basing a sequel off of McFadden’s second book, it seems.
The ending of The Housemaid film essentially set up the sequel as Sweeney’s character, Millie, begins working with a new family.
Adam Fogelson of Lionsgate gave Variety a statement regarding The Housemaid sequel. “It’s clear from both the global box office and from the outpouring on social media that audiences have responded strongly — and audibly — to the totally unique and truly theatrical experiences of The Housemaid and want to know what happens next.”
Fogelson continued, “We are beyond excited to bring the next chapter of Millie’s story to life on-screen.” He teased that the adaptation of The Housemaid’s Secret should be a “similarly rousing and riotous moviegoing experience,” much like the first movie.
Seyfried recently expressed confidence there would be a sequel. As Variety noted, at a recent event, she stated, “No one’s said anything about No. 2, but I guarantee there will be No. 2.”
She added, “I almost guarantee that I’m gonna be some small cameo in it.”
McFadden shared the “Exciting news” about the sequel in an Instagram post, and fans went wild over it.
The comment section of McFadden’s post was immediately flooded with fire and heart emojis as fans embraced the news. More than a few commenters made it clear they want to see the character of Enzo, played by Michele Morrone, return.
Luckily, Seyfried suggested that’s the plan, as she mentioned to Variety that “there’s so much that happens, especially with Michele’s character Enzo,” after the initial story of The Housemaid.
“OMG I COULD CRY!!! That means we get Millie and Enzo,” one fan gushed in a comment on McFadden’s post.
