8 famous celebrities who bought multi-million dollar homes in Quebec, Life in canada

13 January 20263 Mins Read

Quebec isn’t just home to stunning landscapes, world-class ski resorts, and historic cities. It’s also been the backdrop for some pretty spectacular celebrity real estate deals. Over the years, a surprising number of famous faces have been drawn to the province’s mix of natural beauty, privacy, and European charm, picking up multi-million-dollar properties to call their own.

Some of these homes are exactly what you’d expect from A-list buyers: sprawling estates with private lakes, luxurious ski-in chalets, and waterfront mansions tucked away from prying eyes. Others are a little more unexpected, offering a glimpse into how celebrities really live when the cameras are off. And while not every property is still in the hands of its star owner, the stories behind these purchases are just as intriguing as the homes themselves.

Here’s a rundown of nine famous names and their luxe Quebec properties, packed with the details you want to know.

Celine Dion – Laval mansion

In 2016, Quebec’s biggest musical icon sold her sprawling 24,000‑sq‑ft mansion on a private island near Laval for around $25.5 million, complete with stone architecture and sweeping views. She also later listed a smaller villa in Laval (formerly her mother’s home) for $2.4 million in 2023.

The smaller property is currently being rented out on Airbnb.

Halle Berry – Lakeside cabin in Saint-Hippolyte

Back in 2008, Berry and then-partner Gabriel Aubry bought a 2,500‑sq‑ft cabin set on 63 acres by Molson Lake in Saint-Hippolyte for about $1.6 million. The retreat featured pine ceilings and direct lake access, and was later sold for around $1.9 million.

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta‑Jones – Ski‑chalet in Mont‑Tremblant

A-list Hollywood couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta‑Jones snapped up a waterfront property on Lac Desmarais in Mont‑Tremblant in 2005. A serene spot for summer boating and winter skiing, this retreat has long been their go-to for family hangs.

Mario Lemieux – Château‑style mansion in Mont‑Tremblant

NHL legend Mario Lemieux built a jaw-dropping castle-style home in Mont‑Tremblant. Listed in 2018 for C$21,999,066 (with the extra 66 a cheeky nod to his jersey number), it spans nearly 17,000 square feet, 50 rooms, 17 fireplaces, a spa, home cinema, gym, and lake views.

Georges St-Pierre – St. Lambert home

UFC legend Georges St‑Pierre still calls Quebec home, but he’s owned multiple properties over the years.

The former MMA star put his elegant five‑bedroom, three‑bathroom home in Saint‑Lambert on the market for C$2.239 million in 2023. The generously renovated property blends bright, modern interiors with thoughtful details like a custom home cinema, built‑in bar, and spacious double garage.

Guy Laliberté – Outremont mansion

Cirque du Soleil co-founder Guy Laliberté owns (and recently had listed) a massive mansion in Montreal’s Outremont borough. The home spans 13,000 square feet with 50 rooms across five stories.

At one point listed for over 9.75 million (US$9.3 million), it includes luxe amenities like a wine cellar, gym, theatre, and geothermal systems. Laliberté, one of the richest people in Quebec, also owns homes in French Polynesia, Ibiza and Hawaii.

Donald Sutherland – Cottage in Georgeville

The late actor Donald Sutherland may have been born in New Brunswick, but he had plenty of Quebec connections. For decades, Sutherland, a lifelong Montreal Expos fan, owned a summer house in Georgeville, in Quebec’s Eastern Townships. Designed in part by legendary architect Arthur Erickson and worked on by landscape guru Cornelia Hahn Oberlander in the late 1980s, the Hollywood legend was known to spend extended periods in the Townships property.
