Mandarin Oriental Takes Over Management of Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam

Mandarin Oriental has assumed management of the Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam, marking its first property in the Netherlands.

Mandarin Oriental has taken over management of the Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam, effective immediately. The property will now operate as Mandarin Oriental Conservatorium, Amsterdam. This move marks Mandarin Oriental’s entry into the Netherlands and expands its European portfolio.

The hotel is located in Amsterdam’s Museum Quarter and first opened in 2011. The property will maintain its existing local character and historic features under the new management. Mandarin Oriental plans to implement phased upgrades to guest rooms and suites, beginning with the Deluxe Rooms. The hotel’s lounge will undergo a design refresh and will place greater emphasis on afternoon tea service. The 1,000-square-metre Akasha Spa will continue to operate for hotel guests and members.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to mark the rebranding, attended by representatives from Mandarin Oriental and the Akirov family, the hotel’s owners.

Mandarin Oriental has also announced new culinary developments for the property. In early 2026, chef Yotam Ottolenghi will open his first restaurant in the Netherlands at the hotel. The restaurant, inspired by Ottolenghi’s ROVI in London, will focus on a vegetable-led menu with sharing plates using locally sourced ingredients. The new venue will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the hotel’s glass atrium, with further details to be released in the first quarter of 2026.

The hotel’s existing restaurant, Taiko Cuisine, will remain part of the culinary offering. Led by Head Chef Lars Drost, Taiko will continue to serve Asian-inspired dishes with a focus on seasonal produce and classic techniques. Taiko has operated at the property since 2014.

The rebranding and management transition are part of Mandarin Oriental’s strategy to expand its presence in key European cities. No changes to ownership have been announced, and the hotel will continue to operate at its current location. Further updates on renovations and culinary offerings are expected as plans progress.
