Scandic has announced a long-term lease agreement to open a new 170-room Scandic Go hotel in central Tromsø, Norway, with an expected opening in 2028.
Scandic has entered into a long-term lease agreement with Nordlyskvartalet AS to open a new Scandic Go hotel in Tromsø, Norway. The hotel will be located in a new mixed-use development in central Tromsø that will also include residential housing and municipal services. The project is scheduled to begin after the summer of 2026, with the hotel expected to open in 2028.
The planned hotel will have approximately 170 rooms. This will be the second Scandic Go property in Norway and the third Scandic-branded hotel in Tromsø, joining Scandic Ishavshotel and The Dock 69°39 by Scandic, which opened recently. Tromsø will become the first location outside of a capital city in Norway where all three Scandic brands are present.
The agreement is part of Scandic’s strategy to expand its presence in key destinations in the Nordic region. The company currently operates two hotels in Tromsø and has identified the city as a market with growing tourism demand.
The new hotel will operate under the Scandic Go brand, which focuses on economy accommodations in central urban locations. The property will prioritize the use of recycled materials and is planned to be certified by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, the official environmental certification in the Nordic countries.
The development is part of a broader mixed-use project led by Nordlyskvartalet AS. The hotel will be located in central Tromsø, an area that has seen increased tourism and hospitality sector activity in recent years.
Construction is expected to start after summer 2026, with the opening scheduled for 2028. The agreement between Scandic and Nordlyskvartalet AS covers a long-term lease for the hotel portion of the mixed-use property.
Scandic’s expansion in Tromsø reflects ongoing investment in the Norwegian hospitality sector and continued interest in the region as a travel destination.
