Teamsters Local 986 Members at Rio Hotel in Las Vegas Ratify Four-Year Contract, Avoid Strike

Workers at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, represented by Teamsters Local 986, have ratified a four-year contract that includes wage increases, enhanced benefits, and job protections, following a strike authorization vote.

Workers at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas have approved a four-year collective bargaining agreement after previously voting to authorize a strike. The contract covers 62 front desk workers, laborers, warehouse workers, and valet attendants represented by Teamsters Local 986.

The agreement provides a 15 percent wage increase over the contract term, improved vacation policies, and continued coverage under the Teamsters Health and Welfare plan. The contract also includes job protections related to technology and offers workers the option to enroll in the Teamsters 401(k) plan.

The ratification follows a strike authorization vote held on November 10, which was called in response to what the union described as nearly two years of stalled negotiations with Dreamscape, the property’s owner. 

Negotiations between Teamsters Local 986 and Dreamscape had been ongoing for an extended period before the agreement was reached. The union stated that the new contract addresses key concerns raised by workers, including compensation, benefits, and workplace protections.

The contract applies to a group of 62 employees at the Rio Hotel and Casino. According to the Teamsters, the union represents nearly 6,000 members at casinos and casino hotels nationwide.

No strike occurred as a result of the agreement’s ratification. The new contract is effective for four years from the date of ratification.
