If you’re looking for unconventional romance this Valentine’s Day, Netflix has you covered. The critically acclaimed genre-bender Your Monster, starring Melissa Barrera, is set to make its streaming debut on the holiday of love.
Released theatrically by Vertical last year after a buzzy premiere at Sundance, the film has garnered a cult following for its unique mix of musical theater, breakup comedy, and practical creature effects. It arrives on Netflix US just in time for a perfect “anti-Valentine’s” watch.
We can confirm that Your Monster will be available to stream on Netflix US starting Saturday, February 14th, 2026.
This is the second Vertical movie that Netflix has snatched up for February 2026, with the indie crime comedy Bunny also just yesterday confirmed for an SVOD debut on Netflix for February 2026. The indie distributor has worked with Netflix US for many years, with some of their biggest titles debuting on the streamer.
What is Your Monster about?
Written and directed by Caroline Lindy (based on her short film of the same name), the movie offers a twisted take on the Beauty and the Beast trope.
It follows Laura Franco, a soft-spoken actress whose life falls apart when she is diagnosed with cancer and subsequently dumped by her narcissist boyfriend (who also happens to be the playwright of the musical she helped develop). While recovering at her childhood home, she discovers a terrifying but weirdly charming monster living in her closet. Instead of eating her, the Monster becomes her unlikely roommate, friend, and eventually, the catalyst for her to reclaim her rage and her voice.
The film received many excellent reviews at Sundance and in subsequent showcases and releases. The movie carries a 79% Rotten Tomatoes rating with a score currently sitting at 79% with critics and equally good on the audience side with 85%. Megan McLahclan for The Contending had the most interesting take on Your Monster, saying (with some sound advice) the film “is a horror film masquerading as a romantic comedy masquerading as a horror film, and honestly, the less you know going into it — the better — as you don’t want to spoil all the fun.”
Who is in the cast?
Melissa Barrera (Scream VI, In the Heights) is no doubt the centerpiece of the movie, delivering a knock-out performance. She is joined by:
- Tommy Dewey (Casual) as the Monster.
- Edmund Donovan (Civil War) as Jacob.
- Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus) as Jackie
- Kayla Foster (The Deuce) as Mazie
- Ikechukwu Ufomadu (Judas and the Black Messiah) as Don
- Megan Halye (WeCrashed) as Taylor
