Classic Rock Legends Forced to Cancel Concerts Due to Concerns Over ‘Safety of Fans and Crew’

23 January 20263 Mins Read

Cheap Trick has been forced to postpone and cancel two upcoming shows due to “inclement weather and unforeseen circumstances,” the band announced on Jan. 23 on their social media channels.

Cheap Trick’s show in Madison, Wis., originally set for Jan. 24, has been rescheduled for June 28. Tickets will be honored for the new date, but fans who are unable to attend can get refunds at the point of purchase.

The band’s Jan. 25 show in Waukee, Iowa has been cancelled with no replacement date announced.

After making the announcement of the postponement and cancellation, the band added that “our concern is the safety of our fans and crew.”

The forecast for Madison on Jan. 24 ranges from 0 to minus 4 degrees, according to The Weather Channel, while Waukee is under an “extreme cold warning,” with temperatures in the single digits and below zero forecast for Jan. 25. Like much of the country, the two cities are likely to experience ice and snow storms over the weekend.

Fans seemed to take the news in stride in the comments on Instagram.

“Better safe than sorry!” one fan wrote.

“can’t wait to see you all in June! madison should be much more pleasant then! 🥶,” added another.

“Ain’t That a Shame……,” a third fan posted, riffing on the band’s famed cover of the Fats Domino classic featured on Cheap Trick’s breakthrough album, 1978’s At Budokan.

Another fan took the opportunity to send a message to frontman Robin Zander. “Happy Birthday Robin!!!!🤘,” they wrote on Jan. 23, the singer’s 73rd birthday.

However, over on Facebook, some fans were still upset that the band decided to participate in the Kennedy Center Honors concert to pay tribute to their friends in KISS.

“Too bad you didn’t do the right thing and cancel your Kennedy Center gig,” wrote one disgruntled fan.

Back in December, Cheap Trick responded to fans who questioned the band’s participation in the Kennedy Center Honors, since the awards were presented by Donald Trump, who also hosted the show.

The veteran band honored their friends in KISS at the ceremony by performing their 1975 classic “Rock and Roll All Nite,” but some fans were disappointed by Cheap Trick taking part in an event affiliated with Trump.

Cheap Trick took to their social media accounts on Dec. 17 to explain their participation with a blunt statement on a black background with white text.

“We were asked to perform at this year’s Kennedy Center Honors ceremony to pay tribute to our lifelong brothers in KISS, and to support artists and the arts,” the statement posted on Instagram read. “We agreed to do it for those reasons, and no others.”
