Country Star Jelly Roll Reveals the One Thing That Makes His Skin Crawl—And It’s Not What You’d Expect

23 January 20263 Mins Read

Jelly Roll may not be easily rattled, but when it comes to a magician’s talent, well, that’s a different story. In fact, all bets are off. While speaking to Extrain a recent interview, the country music superstar admitted that he can’t help getting spooked by folks who create illusions and make things disappear into thin air.

“I don’t know. It just makes my skin crawl,” the “Save Me,” 41, singer shared his confession while appearing on the red carpet following the live premiere of night one of Netflix’s Star Search on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

The debut episode of the reality competition series featured a variety of talent, including magicians Fernando Velasco and TJ Salta, with the latter advancing into the next phase of the competition. New judge Jelly Roll opened up about his fears after sharing that one of the featured magicians was standing beside him.

“Right here is a creepy magician… magic is creepy,” Jelly Roll said, lowering his voice. “Man, am I the only person who is creeped out by magic? Is this a hot take in the world? All of a sudden, I’m going to get fire for on the internet? It’s just scary. I don’t understand it….”

Jelly Roll Is One of Three Celebrity Judges on Star Search

Jelly Roll serves as a judge on the revamped version of Star Search alongside fellow judges Sarah Michelle Gellar and Chrissy Teigen.Anthony Anderson hosts the program, which grew in popularity in the ‘80s before coming off the air in 1995. The show also enjoyed a brief, renewed one-year stint in 2003.

For Jelly Roll, the revival of Star Search, which helped launch the careers of pop icons like Britney Spears and Beyoncé and others, brings a sense of nostalgia, as he grew up watching the show.

“I caught the ‘90s part of it,” he shared. “It was incredible. My mother thought Ed McMahon was the coolest human ever.”

“….. It’s hard to be cool when you’ve got Anthony Anderson and Sarah Michelle [Gellar] and Chrissy Teigen… First of all, they are the best,” he continued. “They are the awkwardly honest women I’ve ever met in my life. They remind me of my wife. Every time I’m around them, I’m like, ‘Oh, this is like straight girl talk I’m in the middle of.’”

Star Search airs Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.
