Netflix Sets Lucy Letby True Crime Doc For February 2026

Netflix is set to revisit one of the most harrowing and controversial criminal cases in recent British history. The Investigation of Lucy Letby, a new feature-length documentary examining the conviction of the neonatal nurse, is scheduled to land globally on Netflix on February 4th, 2026.

Here’s everything we know so far about the documentary, what it covers, and when you can stream it.

What is The Investigation of Lucy Letby about?

The documentary focuses on the case of Lucy Letby, a former neonatal nurse who was found guilty of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others at the Countess of Chester Hospital between June 2015 and June 2016. The trial, which gripped the UK and still has new developments often, resulted in Letby being labeled the country’s most prolific child murderer. She was convicted and is currently serving 15 whole-life orders.

However, it should be said that the conviction has some divided opinions, suggesting the film may explore the polarizing public and legal discourse that has emerged since the verdict.

As mentioned, there are still regularly new developments in the case, with the BBC reporting just a couple of days ago that Letby would not be facing additional criminal charges after new evidence surfaced.

Netflix promises the “most comprehensive look” at the case to date, featuring interviews with experts and lawyers representing both sides of the argument. The trailer and press release promise never-before-seen footage of Letby during her arrest and police questioning, new testimony from the British police officers who investigated the case, and exclusive contributions from the mother of one of the victims. This marks the first time a family member involved in the prosecution has spoken in a documentary setting.

Following Netflix’s release, several statements from ITN Productions, who were first announced to be working on the project back in 2023, were released:

Ian Rumsey, Managing Director of Content, ITN, said: “This was an incredibly challenging story to tell. We’ve presented perspectives from all sides in order to let viewers draw their own conclusions. I’m enormously proud of the entire team, who’ve attempted to make the definitive documentary about this tragic case. It is ITN Productions at its best.” Caroline Short, Head of Global TV, ITN Productions, said: “The access to all our contributors came with a huge responsibility to present everyone’s perspectives with care and understanding. We are grateful to all those people who trusted us to tell their story.”

The 90-minute documentary film is directed by Dominic Sivyer, known for his sensitive, complex documentaries (Grandpa’s Great Escape, Identifying Wood). Speaking about the project in a statement, Sivyer said, “This was an exceptional and demanding project, marked by significant creative and ethical responsibility. Our aim was to craft a powerful, emotionally resonant depiction of the events surrounding the case.”

Netflix has released an official trailer for the documentary, offering a first look at interrogation footage and emotional testimony from the families involved.

For additional listening ahead of the Netflix release, I’d highly recommend The Daily Mail’s The Trial of Lucy Letby. Hearing the play-by-play of the trial is still one of the most haunting podcast experiences I’ve ever had.
