Live Action Adaptation of ‘Sins of Kujo’ Coming to Netflix in April 2026

Coming to Netflix in Spring 2026 is the highly exciting new Japanese crime drama, Sins of Kujo. Adapted from Shohei Manabe’s manga of the same name, the series will star Hokuta Matsumura, Elaiza Ikeda, and Keita Machida. Here’s everything we know about Sins of Kujo on Netflix.

Sins of Kujo is an upcoming Japanese Netflix Original drama series written by Nonji Nemoto and adapted from Shohei Manabe’s manga of the same name from Weekly Big Comic Spirits, published by Shogakukan. The series is co-directed by Nobuhiro Doi, Takeyoshi Yamamoto, and Hiroshi Adachi.

Director Nobuhiro Doi shared the following with Netflix about the series:

“A lawyer who stands on the dark side, Yuya Yagira and Hokuto Matsumura paired up to play the buddy, and streaming worldwide on Netflix – at this point, there isn’t a single creator who wouldn’t be interested in this project. As we recreated the setting and mood of the original manga with all its unforgettable thrills and heart-pounding excitement, we focused on interactions between flesh-and-blood actors to make the most of the exuberant vitality that is only possible with a live-action shoot. Just like in the original manga, you won’t find a simple or easy-to-understand character in Yagira’s Kujo or anyone else. Every character has their own nuanced perspectives and complex circumstances that aren’t simply black and white. I hope that all of you will join us on this journey to discover what exactly “sin” and “justice” mean to Kujo through this incredible drama shaped by these characters. I’m confident that you’ll find the experience worthwhile.”

The series is produced by Kaori Sugiyama through TBS Sparkle, and will be presented by Tokyo Broadcasting System Television, Inc.

Producer, Kaori Sugiyama, also shared their say on the series:

“When I heard from Shinichi Takashashi at Netflix about this adaptation, I had read up to volume four. I read the original manga and imagined all the countless other things surely happening in-between the panels. I felt so intensely excited about the future of the characters to come, and I let my imagination run wild toward the adaptation. The perfect cast of actors would bring to life the incredible original manga characters that somehow live life so vibrantly even in an unpredictable and unreasonable world and in a society holding a darkness that seemed so eerily plausible and relatable to the real world. Their performances here are superb, must-watch artistry. Two lawyer pals tackling law and morality, the suspense of a crooked lawyer and outlaws betraying and being betrayed — it’s an unconventional, thrilling and fully immersive experience packed with tears and emotion! You won’t want to miss it!”

When is Sins of Kujo coming to Netflix?

Netflix had previously confirmed that Sins of Kujo would be released in Spring 2026, and followed up with the news that it would be released worldwide on April 2, 2026.

A trailer for the series has also been released.

What is the plot of Sins of Kujo?

A synopsis for the series has been sourced from Netflix:

“Taiza Kujo, is a lawyer notorious for taking on the most dangerous, morally ambiguous cases. Kujo’s philosophy is as provocative as his clientele: “A lawyer isn’t guided by ideology; my duty is simply to defend my client.” With the law as his weapon, Kujo defends even the most reprehensible villains, forcing viewers to confront the razor-thin line between justice and corruption.”

Who are the cast members of Sins of Kujo?

Six cast members have been announced for the series so far: Yuya Yagira, Hokuto Matsumura, Elaiza Ikeda, Kenta Machida, Takuma Otoo, and Muro Tsuyoshi.

Yuya Yagira plays the role of Taiza Kujo. The actor has only starred in one Netflix project, in the 2021 film Asakusa Kid. He is most well known for his leading roles in series such as Light of My Lion and Gannibal. He has also starred in films such as A Conviction of Marriage and Gift of Fire.

Taiza Kujo is a notorious lawyer who takes on the toughest cases, wielding his knowledge of the law as his greatest weapon.

The actor shared the following about the role:

“The original manga was a work of fiction, but it also offered an impressive kind of realism and immediacy. Reading through it, you sense the constant push and pull between the ideas that “ignorance is bliss” and “ignorance is a sin.” Where do the principles and beliefs behind the actions of the so-called “corrupt lawyer” Kujo ultimately lie? I hope audiences will notice how Kujo grows and develops while interacting with Karasuma, as portrayed by Hokuto Matsumura. It felt exhilarating to collaborate with my trusted colleagues on this project, like director Doi, producer Nasuda, Netflix, and all my fellow actors, and I was truly excited to help bring it to life. I hope you will enjoy it as much as we did.”

Hokuto Matsumura plays Shinji Karasuma. The actor will be making his Netflix debut in Sins of Kujo. He is most well known for his leading roles in Japanese dramas such as Ensemble, Knockin’ on Locked Door, and Who Needs True Love.

Shinji Karasuma is a graduate of Tokyo University and is also considered an elite lawyer.

Karasuma also shared his thoughts on his character:

“Dangerously alluring, secretly devoted in love, and somehow lonely, Kujo makes a compelling and beloved character. Now that we’ve finished filming, I feel like I’m still in my role as Karasuma, continuing to gaze at Yuya Yagira’s Kujo. I think feeling that way really lines up with Karasuma’s character. This series has many fascinating characters whose stories leave lasting impressions. I hope you will enjoy the magic and excitement of getting caught up in them.”
