‘Viral Hit’ Japanese Netflix Series Coming to Netflix in May 2026

Fans of Weak Hero will be interested in this new Japanese drama, Viral Hit, coming to Netflix. Coming to Netflix on May 28, 2026, the new series stars Ouji Suzuka as Kota Shimura, who, after going viral for standing up to a bully, sees an opportunity to make money and save himself and his mother from poverty.

Viral Hit is an upcoming Japanese Netflix Original and the adaptation of the South Korean webtoon of the same name. The series will be directed by Hideki Takeuchi and written by Yuichi Tokunaga, who previously worked together on the live-action Cells at Work. The series is produced by Japanese production company Rakueisha.

What is the plot of Viral Hit?

Netflix has provided a detailed synopsis for Viral Hit:

“Kota Shimura is a bullied high school student struggling under the weight of his mother’s medical bills and constant abuse from school bullies. His life couldn’t be more bleak… Until one day, an opportunity suddenly falls his way. When a fight with a classmate is accidentally streamed online and goes viral, Kota realizes that fighting can be a profitable venture. He starts a streaming channel and begins to claw his way out from the pits of despair.”

Who are the cast members of Viral Hit?

Ouji Suzuka stars as Kota Shimura. He has starred in two Netflix projects, the live-action adaptation of From Me to You, and the Fukushima Disaster drama The Days. He has also starred in Roppongi Class, which was the Japanese adaptation of Itaewon Class.

Ai Mikami plays Aki Yashido. The actress has starred in two Netflix projects, in the lead role in Chastity High School as Arisawa Ichika, and a supporting role in Yu Yu Hakusho as Yukina.

Araki Sugou plays Toru Kaneko. The actor has yet to star in a Netflix project, but has starred in dramas such as Omusubi, Legendary Boss Sho, Percent, and Worst to First: A Teen Baseball Movie.
