Toronto has lately felt like a never-ending battle with snow banks, icy sidewalks, and finding excuses to stay inside. But for those who don’t mind embracing the cold, there’s a skating rink set in King West, giving locals a fun reason to lace up and spend some time outdoors.
When is the skating rink open?
Open daily from dawn until dusk, Roots Rink at 1 Hotel Toronto is the latest addition to the area, welcoming visitors and locals to enjoy a day on the rink. The long and narrow rink is completely free for public use, making it a great spot to enjoy some time on the ice.
Layer up your coziest winter gear and bring your skates! If you’re a hotel guest, local partner HockeyStickMan has teamed up with the rink to offer complimentary skate rentals.
Though available every day, Sundays come with an extra dose of winter fun thanks to Après Skate Sundays.
What else is happening?
Happening every Sunday in February from 1 to 3 p.m., visitors can head to the Garden Pavilion to warm up with hot chocolate, s’mores, and classic snow-rolled Roots maple syrup. Talk about a true Canadian experience.
There’s also a cozy bonus worth skating early for. This Feb. 8, 2026, the first 25 guests to arrive for Après Skate Sundays will get their hands on a free pair of iconic Roots socks, perfect for staying warm after you leave the rink.
If you’re looking for the perfect urban escape, I think you got it handled. Embrace winter while it lasts.
When: Now until March, weather permitting
