In the midst of backlash against Donald Trump for a blatantly racist video targeting the Obamas, Couric shared a message on Threads to commend the former president for his “class.”

Obama—who has not directly responded to since-deleted Truth Social video—instead took a moment to send his best wishes to the athletes representing Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics, writing in part, “I’m so proud of you. Your talent and perseverance have brought you to this moment, and Michelle and I will be joining Americans from across the country cheering you on.”
In response to Obama’s post, Couric thanked the former POTUS for his “intelligence, kindness and class.”
“So proud that you were our President,” she wrote.
Couric, 69, didn’t specifically mention the recent racist attack on the Obamas in her message, but she spoke out via Instagram earlier in the day on Friday, Feb. 6 to condemn Trump’s Truth Social post
“This is so disgusting,” she wrote on Instagram shortly after the post was removed from Trump’s page following backlash from politicians across party lines.

Despite the post initially being defended by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt as a simple “internet meme,” the post was ultimately taken down.
The White House later claimed that an unnamed staffer had “erroneously made the post,” according to ABC News, while Trump insisted that he would not apologize for sharing the offensive clip.
“No, I didn’t make a mistake,” he said while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday night. “I mean … I look at a lot of, thousands of, things, and I looked at the beginning of it. It was fine.”
He further insisted that the video was supposed to be a “take off The Lion King,” and that he is the “least racist” president the U.S. has seen “in a long time.”
