Are you looking for news on The Night Agent season 4? After binge-watching the explosive twists and the shocking Walcott Capitol scandal in season 3, fans of the hit Netflix thriller are desperate to know what’s next for Peter Sutherland. From taking down a deep-rooted conspiracy within the Hagan administration to finally finding a brief moment of peace, Peter’s latest mission proved that a Night Agent’s work is never truly finished. If you’re wondering how the show will follow up that intense finale, you aren’t alone.
Fortunately, the future looks incredibly bright for the series. While Netflix hasn’t officially announced The Night Agent season 4 renewal status just yet, major behind-the-scenes clues—including an active writers’ room and confirmed filming tax credits in Los Angeles—suggest a new season is practically a done deal. Below, we are breaking down everything we know so far about season 4, including potential release windows, filming location updates, and what our season 3 ending explained means for Peter, Chelsea, Isabel, and the rest of the cast.
Has The Night Agent Been Renewed for Season 4?
Official Renewal Status: Pending (But Likely)
Netflix hasn’t officially announced season 4 of The Night Agent yet, but many pieces are already in place for a renewal. In late 2025, we learned that a writer’s room had officially opened for season 4, which isn’t entirely uncommon for a show of this size, given that Netflix wants new seasons out regularly rather than having to wait 2-3 years.

News then came in late November that an early renewal was definitely on the cards, given that the Los Angeles film commission confirmed a bunch of projects approved for upcoming tax credits, and The Night Agent season 4 was among them. Naturally, that’s a big location move for the show, given that it’s spent most of its time thus far on the East Coast of the United States.
Showrunner Shawn Ryan confirmed all of this to Deadline just ahead of season 3’s release, saying, “Season 4 is not officially picked up yet, but a while ago, in calendar year 2025, they did quietly pick up a writers room,” adding, “We’ve been working for a while on the storyline. We have some scripts, and we are breaking stories. I think you know from the tax credit, there’s a date by which you need to be filming by; there’s time for us at the moment.”
They added that the renewal would still need to be based on performance, however, and we’ll begin to learn that on February 24th. Season 1 still retains a spot on Netflix’s all-time top 10 most-watched list, while season 2 did drop off quite dramatically, with views down around 45% by week 5. We’ll be wanting to see season 3 close to or above season 2 to justify a renewal for a show of this size.
Our understanding is that if a quick season 4 renewal comes, filming will begin in Q2 2026, likely sometime between April and June 2026. If all goes to plan, a mid-to-late 2027 return could be on the cards.
We’ll update this post with new viewership numbers as and when they come in, but as of day 1 on Netflix, the show re-entered the daily TV top 10s in 82 countries, with it #1 in 18 of those.
What happened in The Night Agent season 3?
All’s well that ends well for this season of The Night Agent, mostly.
After starting the season under Jacob Monroe’s thumb, Peter’s investigation into the missing data analyst, Jay Batra, leads him to Isabel, a tenacious journalist who is eventually revealed as Monroe’s estranged daughter. At first, Monroe was expected to be behind a terrorist attack on a US airplane, but the conspiracy ran much deeper, with ties to terrorist Raúl Zapata, who was having money moved to aid his terror activities through the bank Walcott Capitol, which also had ties to first lady Jenny Hagan.
Ultimately, Monroe was in fact innocent of any involvement with Raúl Zapata and had been hunting the man most of his life because of Zapata’s role in the death of the love of his life, Sofia, the mother of Isabel. Throughout the season, a dangerous assassin known as “The Father” had been hunting the likes of Isabel and Jay, but thanks to the efforts of Peter and Monroe, the Father was unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, at the White House, Secret Service agent Chelsea found herself at the centre of a conspiracy after she shot a White House worker whom she believed at the time had intentions to kill the first lady. However, she was misled by the first lady, which set off a chain reaction that saw Chelsea start the season as the head of security at the White House, then dismissed, and then a hit was placed on her by President Hagan to keep her quiet.

As Peter and Isabel got closer to uncovering the secrets Monroe held, the more desperate the likes of the President and Freya became. On numerous occasions, the Father was sent to murder Peter and Isabel; meanwhile, the President used Night Agent, Adam, whom he previously served alongside in the military, to carry out some assassinations on his behalf, including the assassination of Monroe. However, Adam was duped by the President, who led Adam to believe he was innocent of any wrongdoing and had no involvement with Monroe or Walcott Capitol.
Thanks to Chelsea’s dismissal from the White House and her suspicions of the First Lady, she instead took to assisting Peter, one of the few people she could trust with her life. She was able to assist Peter and Adam in stopping a second terror attack, and the White House were deemed to be successful in taking out Raúl Zapata. However, with Monroe dead and Zapata, the President and his wife were looking to silence anyone who knew of their involvement with Walcott Capitol. This resulted in Adam almost killing Chelsea before she was rescued by Peter, as a result of denying a request to stand down from the President, his call sign was removed from the Night Agent helpline.
Meanwhile, Isabel and Jay were successful in breaking into Monroe’s encrypted files and were formulating a plan to expose everything inside the documents, which included his connection to the White House, and how his influence swung an election to get Hagan inside the White House at the cost of using the First Lady to send daily presidential briefs. However, thanks to the lawyers at Financial Register being scared of repercussions and the time it would take to go through the files, they need a witness to come forward and expose the presidency.
Isabel, along with Chelsea and Peter, was able to extract Freya from her apartment to the Financial Register, but the President didn’t make it easy. Two Night Agents he personally assigned were used in the attempt to assassinate Freya, but were unsuccessful after running into Peter and Chelsea. Adam was the last obstacle in Peter’s way, which led to him taking a bullet to the leg, but ultimately sanity prevailed, and Peter, with the help of Freya, convinced Adam that the Hagans were corrupt and that they needed Freya to expose them.
Begrudgingly, Freya confirmed, live on camera, that the Financial Register officer Walcott Capitol was involved with the President and the laundering and corruption that led to the Hagans reaching the White House.
The Aftermath
Weeks or months later, Jay is discussing live on air how he figured out a terror attack was imminent. Meanwhile, Peter, who is recovering from his gunshot wound, is in good spirits and meets with Isabel in the park to catch up. It’s here we learn that Isabel has been reporting on the encrypted files from Monroe, but has omitted Peter’s name from the reports, as he was the only person to make a deal with her father to help others. Isabel confirms she will be leaving the States for a brief period to stay in Barcelona. As for Chelsea, she has reconciled with her partner Erik, and they are happily planning their wedding. A live news report confirmed that the Hagans have stood down and left the White Houseahead of their Senate conviction, but have “signed a new media deal.”
As for Freya, she has more than likely been assassinated by The Father. This is thanks to his last phone call with her, as he refused to finish her last job, claiming he was retiring from his line of work, which led to Freya threatening him and the life of his son. As Freya had never met the Father, he used a British accent to disguise his voice, and after flirting with her at a bar, slipped a pill into her drink, the same method he used to murder Financial Register editor, Mike.
Lastly, we see Peter, who is told by Mosley that an internal investigation is underway into all current Night Agents, cleaning house and ensuring that none of the future Night Agents are dirty or compromised. As for Peter, he intends to return to being a Night Agent, but wants to take an extended leave to find a healthier work-life balance. He certainly deserves it. The last shot of Peter is him finally finding the lost ice cream of childhood, reminding him of his beloved mother.

What happens next for The Night Agent?
Peter and Chelsea
Next season, we’re likely to see a more upbeat Peter, who has learned a lot from his experiences in the third season. Mosley has hinted at a partner for Peter, which the latter had requested earlier in the season. The candidate that Mosley could have in mind is Chelsea Arlington, but given her upcoming nuptials, could this cause a rift in her relationship after it has just healed?
Isabel
Isabel is in Barcelona, so for all we know, a mission could send Peter there, where he runs into her again. Given her reporting on the Monroe files, it would not be surprising if a huge target is now on her back.
The Hagans
What comes next for the Hagan’s is curious. In the news report, it stated they had signed a “new media deal.” What this deal entails remains to be seen, but now, as a disgraced President, he may use this new platform to heal his image and restore faith among his voter base.
The Father
The Father is also still a wild card. While he is happy to retire from his life as an assassin to raise his son, there is also a chance that an adversary uses his son against him and forces the Father to carry out assassinations once more. Naturally, we would expect Peter to have a run-in with the Father once more if this happens.
What about Rose?
Peter evidently still carries a torch for Rose, but so long as he is a Night Agent, the likelihood of his ever being able to be with her is slim.
Who is the next threat?
The finale of season 2 did a great job of setting up Jacob Monroe as a major antagonist for the third season, alongside President Hagan, as he was in the pocket of the information broker. However, with the happy ending we received from season 3, there isn’t a clear answer to who the next threat is, leaving us to speculate.
With Walcott Capitol now at the centre of the Monroe Files, the dangerous clients involved are exposed, leading to numerous arrests and the loss of billions of dollars in seized assets. The clients affected by this may seek revenge on those responsible, or, more likely, rivals and competitors of those exposed will use the resulting power vacuum to their advantage.
No matter who it is, Peter will be on hand to save the day.
