The Body is an upcoming Netflix Original coming-of-age thriller series created and written by showrunner Quinn Shephard. Shephard also directed the first episode and served as an executive producer alongside a heavyweight team including Peter Chernin, Amy Israel, and Riley Keough.
Described by Netflix as a drama that blends elements of “Catholic horror,” “suspense,” and “raunchy teen psychodrama,” Shephard has offered more insight into the specific tone of the series, calling it a “love letter” to the 90s and Y2K era:
“I’ve always been interested in the idea of girlhood as a religious experience. This story is definitely my way of putting a playful spin on all the nightmares of my own teenage-dom. Tonally, I would describe the show as gritty camp. It’s a raunchy teen psychodrama with a dash of Catholic horror.“
The project is produced by The North Road Company and Felix Culpa. Executive producers include Amy Israel, Peter Chernin, Josh Stern, and Blair Breard for North Road, with Riley Keough, Gina Gammell, and Sacha Ben Harroche representing Felix Culpa. Jennifer Morden serves as the production designer.

Filming Ongoing
Post-Production
Filming for The Body has officially concluded. Production took place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and the surrounding Greater Toronto Area.
Cameras began rolling on September 29, 2025, and the shoot was initially due to wrap on February 13, 2026, although it wouldn’t finish until a week later, for the majority of the cast on February 22nd.
Local Filming Updates & Sightings
Production for The Body extended well beyond Toronto’s city limits, utilizing various locations across the region to create the show’s distinct, atmospheric setting. According to local reporting from YourCityWithIN, shoots were scheduled across the GTA, including Mississauga, Ajax, Brampton, Burlington, and Caledon.
Residents in Hamilton also spotted the production in early November 2025. As discussed in community sightings on r/Hamilton, a large base camp was established at the former Stoney Creek Dairy site (locally known as the SBB lot) near the intersection of Rymal Road and Tapleytown Road, where trailers labeled The Body were confirmed by locals.
Earlier in the production schedule, casting calls posted on Backstage and Project Casting sought specific background roles in these regions, including “professional-looking women” and young adults for key sequences involving the show’s pivotal dance team initiation. Official production lists from Ontario Creates confirmed the shoot dates and the production’s extensive presence in Mississauga.
Following the wrap, a big bash was held on February 23rd to celebrate, with numerous actors attached to the project confirming they were done too.
What is the episode count and runtime?
The series will consist of 8 episodes. The approximate running time per episode is 60 minutes.
When is The Body Netflix release date?
Netflix has confirmed that The Body is slated to premiere in 2026 as confirmed during Next on Netflix (What Next?) 2026.
Given that filming wrapped in mid-February 2026 and the series requires visual effects for its “prophetic visions” and horror elements, a release in the second half of the year is expected. A Q4 2026 release would align well with the show’s dark, thriller tone, possibly in September or October, when Netflix’s horror slate usually drops.
