The official cause of death for Lil Jon’ssonNathan Smith has been determined.
Smith was reported missing on Feb. 3 from his home in Milton, Georgia “under unusual circumstances.” A body believed to be Smith’s was then discovered on Feb. 6 in a pond near the family home.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner has determined that Smith’s death was accidental and due to, “drowning in the setting of psilocybin use” according to an autopsy report obtained by People.
According to the autopsy report, a sample of Smith’s blood tested positive for psilocybin which is described as, “a pharmacologically active hallucinogenic compound of psilocybin — hallucinogenic mushrooms.”
At the time Smith’s body was discovered, the Milton Police Department said in a statement that, “On February 6, 2026, at approximately 11:53 a.m., divers with the Cherokee County Fire Department located and recovered a body from the pond. The individual is believed to be Nathan Smith, pending official confirmation by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.”
The Milton Police Department also said at the time that while the investigation into Smith’s death was still ongoing, they did not suspect foul play.
Lil Jon had released his own statement to People following the statement released from the Milton Police Department.
“I am extremely heartbroken for the tragic loss of our son, Nathan Smith. His mother and I are devastated,” he said. “Nathan was the kindest human being you would ever meet. He was immensely caring, thoughtful, polite, passionate, and warmhearted — he loved his family and the friends in his life to the fullest. He was an amazingly talented young man; a music producer, an artist and engineer, and graduate of NYU.”
The rapper continued, We loved Nathan with all of our hearts and are incredibly proud of him. He was loved and appreciated, and in our last times together we’re comforted in knowing that we expressed that very sentiment to him.”
