America’s Cult Road Trip Mega-Store Is Opening Locations in 8 New States

With its signature beaver mascot and reputation for good food and interesting shopping finds, Buc-ee’s isn’t just a gas station or convenience store: it’s a road trip destination all on its own. 

The Texas-based convenience and travel center chain has prided itself on providing comfortable places to stop while on the road since 1982, and is currently in the midst of a major expansion, including in several states for the first time.

Fast Company reports that eight states, specifically Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, and Wisconsin, are slated to get their first-ever Buc-ee’s locations in the next few year. This follows the brand’s recent expansion from Texas into the southeastern United States. 

Arizona will get its first location in Goodyear in June, reports KTAR News, while THV11 in Arkansas reported in April 2025 that Buc-ee’s founder and president, Beaver Aplin, said that the chain aims to open a location in Benton in September 2026, though a final target date has not been determined. 

A location in Huber Heights, Ohio, will open April 6, 2026, according to WBNS, with first responders getting a sneak peek at the state’s first Buc-ee’s on April 3.

In 2027, Louisiana is slated to get its first Buc-ee’s location in Ruston, east of Shreveport, with a target opening date sometime around April, reports WWL. Mebane, North Carolina, is also on track for what’s looking like a 2027 opening of its first location, according to Chron.

In October 2025, Buc-ee’s broke ground on a location in Kansas City, Kansas, with Stan Beard, Buc-ee’s director of real estate and development, telling KSHB that they are “still in the early stages, but pleased that the project is beginning to take shape.” Beard similarly told WISN that the chain plans to open its first Wisconsin location in Oak Creek, hopefully in 2027. 

Buc-ee’s announced in January that it plans to open its first Nebraska location near Interstate 80 and Highway 31, according to WOWT, though an opening date has not been announced to the public.
