Lanterns star joins 2027’s Man of Tomorrow
If you were at all disappointed by the amount of Green Lanterning done by John Stewart in the first look at HBO’s Lanterns series, at least you’ll have next year’s big Superman (sort of) sequel to look forward to. The Hollywood Reporter reported on Thursday that Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge), the new live-action Stewart, will play a role in Man of Tomorrow, almost assuredly doing all the Green Lantern stuff that Green Lantern fans crave.
Pierre co-stars with Kyle Chandler in HBO’s Lanterns, but instead of a wild superhero romp like Superman, that show will play out more like a season of True Detective. In the series’ first teaser trailer, we see Pierre’s John Stewart and Chandler’s Hal Jordan journeying to a rural town to investigate a murder (and doing lots of bickering). Outside of Chandler taking flight using the power of his ring, Lanterns‘ first look was absent any real superpowers.
No doubt things will be very different for Man of Tomorrow, which sees David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult returning as Clark Kent/Superman and Lex Luthor, respectively, to battle the evil Brainiac. German actor Lars Eidinger has been cast as the alien villain.
Man of Tomorrow will also bring back Superman stars Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane) Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), and Maria Gabriella de Faria (The Engineer). It’s unclear if the new DCU’s other Green Lanterns, including Chandler’s Hal Jordan and Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, will also have a presence. There’s a whole corps of Green Lanterns out there in the galaxy, it’s just a matter of how many green construct spring-loaded boxing gloves Gunn wants to get on screen.
DC Studios’ Man of Tomorrow is slated to hit movie theaters on July 9, 2027.
