Lashana Lynch Boards ‘Peaky Blinders’ Sequel Series At Netflix & BBC

Following the release of the Peaky Blinders movie, The Immortal Man, the Shelby saga continues to expand. We’ve got exciting casting news for the upcoming 1950s-set sequel series: BAFTA-winning actress Lashana Lynch is officially heading to Birmingham, as the actress has been snapped filming scenes for the new continuation currently in production in the United Kingdom.

Here is everything we know so far about her casting and the new post-war chapter in the Peaky Blinders universe.

Lashana Lynch has become a powerhouse over the last few years. Best known for making history as the first Black female 007 agent, Nomi, in the James Bond blockbuster No Time to Die, Lynch has also appeared in a suite of beloved shows and movies in recent years including roles in The Woman King, Matilda the Musical, the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside Captain Marvel, and most recently in Sky/Peacock’s hit thriller The Day of the Jackal. Up next for the actress is Children of Blood and Bone, set to release in 2027.

Now, Lynch is trading the world of modern espionage for the soot and smoke of 1950s post-war Britain. While details regarding her specific character are currently being kept tightly under wraps, her addition brings major star power to the “next generation” of the Shelby story. She joins previously confirmed younger cast members taking the wheel, including Cal O’Driscoll (Video Nasty, September Says), Fintan Shevlin, and Jacob Wright.

What is the new Peaky Blinders Sequel Series about?

While the new movie The Immortal Man (set during WWII) serves as a bridge for the franchise, this television project is a two-season sequel series that moves the timeline forward to 1953. The two-season project was first unveiled back in October 2025, with the BBC and Netflix distributing.

According to the official synopsis, the two new six-part, hour-long seasons will explore a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham Blitz. The story follows the Shelby family as they navigate the brutal, high-stakes world of post-war reconstruction. In this new era mapped out by creator Steven Knight, the race to rebuild Birmingham with concrete and steel becomes a “brutal contest of mythical dimensions.” It’s described as a time of unprecedented opportunity and danger, with the blood-soaked Shelby family right at the center.

Production is Already Underway

As previously reported at the beginning of March, cameras have already started rolling! Production officially kicked off in Stoke-on-Trent, with local casting listings operating under the working title Peaky 1954. Thanks to some early snaps, we learned that Cal O’Driscoll, Fintan Shevlin, and Jacob Wright would be starring.

The production crew from Kudos—the same team behind This Town and SAS Rogue Heroes—has been utilizing the historic Grade II-listed Queen’s Theatre in Burslem to capture the perfect mid-century aesthetic for indoor scenes. Filming has also taken place outdoors on Jenkins Street, which was beautifully transformed into post-war Britain with 1950s-era cars and period-appropriate set dressing.

While Stoke-on-Trent (a favorite haunt for Steven Knight) is hosting some of the initial shoots, the majority of the filming is expected to take place at Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham, or in the case of these latest shots, on the streets of Birmingham.

Beyond the initial announcement and some very subtle teases by the cast and crew of the movie throughout the press junket run (most wouldn’t confirm or say anything!), things have been quiet, so we’d expect a big reveal in the weeks and months to come.

Here are some of the new snaps taken yesterday of Lynch on set, in 1950s-era attire.

In addition to those snaps, we also got some additional filming shots on the street:
