‘2034’ AI Thriller Starring Rachel McAdams to Begin Filming in May 2026

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is helming a brand-new thriller for Netflix, 2034, with AI at the center of the story, and Rachel McAdams to lead the film. Filming is reported to get underway in May 2026. 2034 is an upcoming Netflix Original thriller film directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who co-wrote the script with Kieran Fitzgerald (Snowden), and shares a story credit with Natasha Lyonne, known for Pokerface and Russian Doll. Gordon-Levitt and Fitzgerald also serve as producers. Ram Bergman and Rian Johnson’s T-Street Productions are producing the film, with Bergman listed as a producer.

The only cast member reported to be attached to the film is Academy Award-nominated actress Rachel McAdams. McAdams has starred in 33 films over her 25-year career in film and television, and while many are familiar with her early work in Mean Girls and The Notebook, she has also appeared in blockbuster franchises such as Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes as Irene Adler and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Christine Palmer. 

Her work in the hard-hitting drama Spotlight earned her a deserved Oscar nomination, which she narrowly lost to Alicia Vikander for The Danish Girl. McAdams also starred alongside Will Ferrell in Netflix’s musical-comedy Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, and, more recently, in Sam Raimi’s survival-thriller Send Help.

It has been reported in issue 1496 of Production Weekly that filming for 2034 is set to begin on May 4, 2026, in Belgrade, Serbia. Filming is currently scheduled to end sometime in 2027.

Montenegro has also been listed as a filming location for the movie.

When will 2034 be released on Netflix?

At the time of writing, Netflix has not announced a release date for 2034.

Given the reported filming schedule and a lengthy post-production, we likely won’t see the film on Netflix until sometime in 2027.
