First announced in early 2024 at Next on Netflix UK, production has officially wrapped on the new drama series Grown Ups, headlined by Robert Sheehan, Sarah Greene, Barry Ward, and Aisling Bea.
Here’s an updated guide to everything you need to know about the upcoming show now that it has finished filming in Ireland.
What is Grown Ups about?
Grown Ups, a new eight-episode scripted drama (with each episode running an hour long) based on Marian Keyes’ best-selling 2020 novel.
The official synopsis for the series, courtesy of See Saw Films, reads:
“Set in south county Dublin, Grown Ups follows the chaotic lives of the Casey clan, a noisy, tight-knit Irish family, who are bound together by a tangled web of loyalty, resentment, money, memory, and love.
When the rock of the family, the “good son,” dies unexpectedly, it sets off a seismic emotional reckoning. Over the course of the next year, the Caseys will fall in and out of love, confront old wounds and make some new ones. They’ll be forced to face not only their grief, but the exhausting, relentless, and often ridiculous struggle of being an adult.
Despite their age and responsibilities, the Caseys are far from grown up.”
See-Saw Films (the production company behind Slow Horses and Heartstopper) and Picking Scabs are behind the production. The series is created and written by Samantha Strauss (Apple Cider Vinegar), who co-founded Picking Scabs as a joint venture with See-Saw. Also on the writing team are Liz Doran, Eugene O’Hare, Margaret Perry, and Greg Waters.
Executive producers are Strauss, Helen Gregory, Andy Noble, Shay Spencer, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Liz Watts, Marian Keyes, and James Griffiths, with Simon Gillis as co-executive producer and Liz Gill as series producer.
Episodes are directed by James Griffiths and Ciaran Donnelly. For Netflix, the series is overseen by Manda Levin, Henrietta Lee, and Mona Qureshi.
“I am not alone in being obsessed with every word Marian Keyes has ever written, and it is a true life highlight to be trusted with her characters as we bring the Casey family and the world of Grown Ups to Netflix,” said creator Samantha Strauss, who praised the “preposterously glorious” cast and crew.
See-Saw’s Helen Gregory added that the team is “thrilled to be collaborating with Picking Scabs,” calling the cast “talented” and promising warmth, wit, and deep emotion. Netflix’s Manda Levin highlighted the creative synchronicity between Keyes and Strauss and said the best-in-class ensemble is already bringing the characters to life.
Author Marian Keyes called the production journey “a succession of dreams come true,” recalling her first lockdown Zoom call with Strauss back in October 2020, the early commitment to shoot in Ireland, and the casting that exceeded expectations. “I am enormously proud and grateful for the care taken with my characters,” she said.
Upon wrapping production in February 2026, star Aisling Bea shared behind-the-scenes photos to Instagram, adding: “After SIX months, we are WRAPPED on Grown Ups – a new 8-hour Netflix drama… All filmed in Ireland with backdrops as stunning as the cast. Where was Grown Ups filmed?
Staying true to the novel’s roots, creator Samantha Strauss was adamant from the beginning that the show needed to be shot in Ireland. Filming took place over a six-month shoot that officially wrapped in February 2026. The cast and crew shot extensively in and around Dublin—specifically highlighting the recognizable streets of South County Dublin—with additional filming taking place in Wicklow.
Upon the series wrapping, Aisling Bea wrote a heartfelt post on Instagram on February 6th, sharing some behind-the-scenes snaps on the series, writing:
“After SIX months, we are WRAPPED 🎥 on Grown Ups – a new 8 hour Netflix drama based on the fantastic @marian_keyes novel of the same name.
All filmed in Ireland with backdrops as stunning as the cast. 🇮🇪 What a cast! New comers, old comers, and mid summers. I feel very lucky to be in it.
And oh my god this crew, thank you so much to our excellent teams behind the scenes , the kindness and funniness of everyone who kept me laughing, especially when I wanted to be crying leaving my wee bubba at home for the long filming hours. BUT she learned to cook, clean, skin a fish with a sharp blade and light fires in the garden all by herself. We don’t know an airing date yet, but I know it’ll be out all over the world & you are gonna love it.”
