NYC’s Highest Sky Deck Is Turning Into a 1,100-Foot 'Kaleidoscopic' Immersive Experience

7 April 20263 Mins Read

If you’re planning a trip to New York City, you probably have the Empire State Building or Top of the Rock on your list. But if you want the experience that actually feels like you’re stepping out into the sky, you need to head to Hudson Yards for Edge.

Think of Hudson Yards as the city’s newest, shiniest neighborhood on the West Side. It’s home to Edge, which is the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere. What makes it different from the classic spots is its “floating” design—it’s a massive triangular platform that juts 80 feet out into mid-air from the 100th floor.

Today, Edge announced that it’s evolving into something much more than a viewing platform. Starting in Summer 2026, the entire journey from the street to the sky is being transformed by world-class design studios like Moment Factory and SOFTlab into a permanent, multi-sensory world of light and motion.

Here is why this is about to become the most talked-about spot in the city:

Edge is ditching the standard elevator ride for a “kaleidoscopic” experience. As you ascend 1,100 feet, you’ll walk through interactive indoor environments that actually change based on the sun’s position and the time of year.

Andrew Lustgarten, Executive Chairman of Hudson Yards Experiences, says the goal is to make you feel the heartbeat of the city before you even see the view. “Situatued 1,100 feet above one of the greatest cities on earth, Edge at Hudson Yards will transform what it means to be a New York City landmark,” Lustgarten says. “The new Edge is driven by immersive design, emotional storytelling and our desire to create experiences that people want to share and return to again and again.”

Three New “Viral” Indoor Spaces

SoftLab NYC

The indoor portion of the 100th floor will now feature three anchor installations that are designed to be “worlds within worlds”:

  • Pulse: A room of pulsing electric color and sound that captures the city’s energy.
  • Crystal Cave: A walk-through rainbow of translucent jewels. Lustgarten says, “The way the light refracts and shines in the space, against the stunning backdrop of Manhattan, makes me fall in love with New York City over and over again.”
  • Infinite City: A forest of glowing “skyscrapers” that reflect and fragment the actual skyline around you.

The Floating Thrill

SoftLab NYC

Of course, the main event is still the outdoor sky deck. There’s a section with a glass floor where you can stand 100 stories directly above the street, and angled glass walls that let you literally lean out over Manhattan.

If you’re looking for a night out, the Marquee Skydeck returns as a permanent fixture on May 1, bringing global DJs like Benny Benassi to the 100th floor. Lustgarten notes that the new indoor art will make the party even better: “That space will serve as an incredible backdrop for when we have DJ sets at Marquee Skydeck that are located inside.”

The 2026 Logistics

  • Price: General Admission tickets start at $40 (plus a $2 fee) if you book online. You can save up to 35% if you book at least 14 days in advance.
  • Where to Buy: Secure your spot at edgenyc.com.

The Vibe: It’s sleek, futuristic, and feels like “New New York.” If you want the one photo that will make everyone back home jealous, this is the spot.
