ER started with Noah Wyle playing Dr. John Carter, who was learning the ropes from veteran doctors. Wyle, 54, now plays Dr. Robby Robinavitch, who runs the emergency room staff on The Pitt. The actor left ER, and the show continued for four more seasons. Here is why he left the first medical show.

Dr. John Carter left the hospital to be with his girlfriend, Kem (Thandie Newton). The actor moved on to movies like Below the Beltway and Snake & Mongoose after his exit. But Wyle didn’t say a movie career was the reason for the change.

“I’ve got a son, I’ve got family and friends that said goodbye to me 12 years ago and are wondering when I’m coming back, and this little urge to scratch a different kind of itch in my career, and it’s just coming to the end of the character’s run,” Wyle told E! News.
Wyle married Tracy in 2000 and had a son, Owen, and daughter, Auden. They divorced in 2010. He married Sara Wyle in 2014 after meeting in 2010. They share a child named Frances.
Sara, 46, appeared in Nip/Tuck, Californication, and Leverage: Redemption. She appeared in The Pitt Season 2 as a patient named Ashley Davis. Ashley came to the hospital with an inflamed liver and a yellow tint to her skin and eyes in episode 13.
The Pitt Season 2 ended with Dr. Robby’s last day before his break from work. He planned to take a long ride on his motorcycle. Some wondered if it would be his last season, but Wyle will return for season 3.
