There will be free Latin dance lessons in Edmonton’s Churchill Square all through spring

4 May 20262 Mins Read

Ready to dance the night away? Salsa in the Square is coming to Edmonton for the spring, and you’ll be on your feet all evening long.

Salsa in the Square is a program running every Wednesday in Churchill Square, thanks to ETOWN SALSA and the Edmonton Arts Council. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. every evening, you’ll get a free class where you’ll learn basic moves for different Latin dances.

This program ran last summer with overwhelming success. Now, it’s finally back to meet the nice weather again, allowing folks to have an outdoor activity that’ll keep them moving. If you’re ready to immerse yourself in the art of salsa and Latin dance, this is the perfect opportunity.

What to expect

Put on your dancing shoes, these spring evenings will have you moving non-stop. Here, in Churchill Square, you’ll be learning the basic movements and fundamentals of salsa. Eight weeks are lined up, meaning you’ll be learning and dancing for two months.

It’s not just limited to salsa, however. You can also learn merengue, bachata, cumbia, and more traditional types of Latin dances.

After all the weeks of learning and moving is a special night to end the series.

On June 24, there will be a live Latin band, as well as an extended time from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. First will be a level one lesson in Mambo, followed by the Latin band playing tunes for an hour. This will repeat, with another lesson (this time a half step up from level one), and another performance from the Latin band to finish off the night and series.

Salsa in the Square is slated to be one of the best free events in Edmonton this spring. I’m even looking at grabbing some friends and dancing, and I’d recommend doing the same.

This opportunity is just too good to pass up.

When: Every Wednesday from May 6, 2026, to June 24, 2026
Time: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Sir Winston Churchill Square
Cost: Free
