Where to find troilite in Subnautica 2

19 May 20264 Mins Read

Troilite is an essential Subnautica 2 resource needed to craft mangalloy ingots and build a metal farm. Without troilite, you won’t be able to produce new ores, which would be problematic since ore nodes don’t respawn. Troilite doesn’t spawn in the most inviting place, but once you know where to look (and get past the creepy fish), you can start building your own metal farm.

Here’s where to find Troilite and how to craft mangalloy ingots in Subnautica 2.

[Ed. note: Before you dive in, be sure to open the character menu and enable all landmark signals. This will make it easier to spot the locations mentioned in this guide.]

Where to find troilite in Subnautica 2

Troilite is a bright green ore needed to craft mangalloy ingots in Subnautica 2. It only spawns near the greenish-yellow metal farm fields not too far from the Alien Ruins. For some reason, the game calls troilite deposits “mineralized clinkers,” but the ore collected from these deposits appears as “troilite” in your inventory.

Before you head out to find troilite, be sure to upgrade your tadpole with the first depth module, as it’s far too deep and too dangerous to visit this area without a submarine. As always, bring a sonic resonator to destroy the troilite deposits.

Starting from the Alien Ruins, travel 520 meters east, to the Angel Comb. If you haven’t been there yet, it’s the massive alien structure with the purple roots below.

From there, take the chasm to the northeast. You will see a yellow metal field at the end. Be careful, as the leviathan (giant squid) patrols this area; check whether you see him (or hear boss music) before proceeding. The other deep-sea fish will attack you on sight, but only if you leave the tadpole.

On the left side of this lake, you can find a total of seven troilite deposits. The first three are on the same level as the lower lake, while the remaining four are on a higher ledge, near a second green lake. Here are the two troilite deposits at the lower lake (a third is just behind them), plus the first two deposits near the higher lake:

How to make mangalloy ingots in Subnautica 2

Together with one piece of titanium and one piece of atacamite, you can turn one stack of troilite into a mangalloy ingot at the processor. It takes 30 seconds for the mangalloy ingot’s crafting process to finish.

Although you can spend troilite and mangalloy ingots on other things, be sure to use them for the metal farm first. This is very important, as the troilite deposits will not respawn. Once you’ve placed a metal farm, however, you can use it to multiply your troilite and get more.

If you’re starting out in Subnautica 2, we have a plethora of guides to help you navigate the deep blue sea. Our Subnautica 2 beginner’s guide will set you off in the right direction and our base building tips will assist in planning out your sprawling base. Don’t forget to stock up on food and water, too. (And if you want to get fancy with your food, you’ll want salt!)

If you need help finding materials, we explain how to get the sonic resonator, which you’ll want to mine tons of materials. We have guides on where to find these resources, like lead, sulfur, copper, quartz, and gold.
