One of the best festivals in the world will be bringing a river full of lanterns to Edmonton

22 May 20263 Mins Read

Light up the river around Rundle Park at Edmonton’s upcoming water lantern festival.

For over eight years, this international water lantern festival has taken place in over 175 cities, with over two million lanterns launched. It was even voted the best festival in the world. Finally, it’s time for these lanterns to make their way into Edmonton.

This event is more than just releasing lanterns; it’s releasing your worries, fears, and negative thoughts. This rejuvenating activity celebrates love in all forms, whether you’re there with family, friends, or a special loved one. It’s an empowering event, one that you won’t regret attending.

What to expect

The best thing about this event? It will be happening, rain or shine. So, no matter how the weather is looking on Aug. 1, Rundle Park will be filled with hundreds of folks looking to light their lantern.

This event is all about healing and reflecting, with the lanterns giving you an opportunity to share your thoughts and feelings in a meaningful way. It’s an intimate event for everyone involved; you’re creating something beautiful as a community. Not to mention, the view of all the lanterns in the water is absolutely spectacular.

If you’re worried about the environmental impact of the event, don’t worry. The lanterns are biodegradable and water-safe, with every single lantern being collected after the event. The festival’s team does a full venue cleanup to leave no trace of the exquisite event.

Tickets are on sale now, currently with early-bird pricing starting at $42.99. Each ticket includes a floating lantern, a decorating kit, an LED candle, a marker, a wristband, as well as access to live music, food trucks, lawn games, and the lantern launch. Depending on the location, there are also s’mores stations available.

As for the schedule, the gates will open at 6:30 p.m., so you can make sure to get a good spot. Speaking of, you won’t want to forget to bring a lawn chair or blanket, as well as sunscreen and bug spray. You’ll be outdoors, so dress appropriately!

If you’re ready to let your feelings go in the sanctity of Rundle Park, this event will provide the perfect moment for it. Don’t hesitate to attend, because this event is sure to have you feeling rejuvenated.

When: Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026
Time: 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Where: Rundle Park — 2909 113th Ave. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Cost: $42.99+
