Terms of Employment
• Status: Full Time – Permanent
• Compensation: $57,452/year (equivalent to $31.57/hour) based on a 35-hour workweek.
• Vacation: 2 weeks’ paid vacation time.
• Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package (eligible after 3-month probationary period)
• Retirement: Registered Pension Plan (RPP) with a 9% matching program (eligible after 3-Month probationary period).

Job Description
The Theatre Technician – Audio & Lighting provides exceptional technical production support and customer service to artists, clients and community users of the Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre. This dual-discipline role is designed for a versatile production professional who brings a balanced skill set in both live audio production (with a focus on monitors, livestream mixing, and system teching) and theatrical/concert lighting (including hang, focus, console operation).

The successful candidate will join an established, collaborative technical team that includes resident specialists in both departments, working dynamically across disciplines to meet the diverse needs of our busy roadhouse facility.

Core Duties & Responsibilities
Audio Systems & Operations
• Configure, operate and strike live audio systems for a wide variety of events.
• Serve as an audio operator with a specific focus on mixing on-stage monitors (wedges/IEMs) and managing livestream broadcast audio.
• Operate digital audio consoles (DiGiCo) and related signal distribution for event playback and secondary mixes.
• Coordinate on day-of with touring technicians, guest artists & peers.

Lighting Systems & Operations
• Serve as lighting operator – hanging, focusing, programming & striking lighting systems for various performances & rentals.
• Operate and maintain lighting consoles (ETC), intelligent fixtures and related data/power distribution infrastructure.
• Collaborate with touring technicians, guest artists & peers to execute plots, program cues, and adapt designs for incoming touring shows.

Cross-Disciplinary Support
Collaborate with the technical team to support all other production areas as required by each unique event, including:
• Fly System: Rigging and operating the theatrical fly system.
• Video: Setup and operating projection and livestream systems.
• Stage Carpentry: Performing basic carpentry, project construction, painting.
• General: Setup, teardown & restore as required by each event.

Teamwork, Leadership & Safety
• Integrate into an established crew alongside a resident Lighting Technician and a resident Audio Technician.
• Work collaboratively as part of a dynamic event crew, typically comprising two technicians (audio and lighting) and one Backstage Volunteer Expert, or, a Studio Tech and Livestream Tech pairing.
• Provide training, mentorship, and technical guidance to user groups, community members, students, and our dedicated local Backstage Volunteer Experts.
• Perform routine maintenance and upkeep on all theatrical equipment, ensuring all backstage, control and storage areas remain clean, organized and safe.
• Actively uphold and promote occupational health and safety standards for all co-workers, volunteers, users, and patrons.

Required Knowledge and Skills
Education & Experience
• Diploma & Experience: Stagecraft diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution plus professional work experience 2 Years (or an equivalent combination of education & experience).
• Venue & Event Scope: Experience in a roadhouse facility with a wide range of performance types (live music, theatre, circus, dance, choir, variety & corporate) across amateur and professional levels is a strong asset.
• Technical Versatility: Strong background across multiple production disciplines, including lighting, audio, video, rigging and stagecraft.

Technical Expertise
• Audio Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to mix on-stage monitors (wedges & IEMs) and livestream broadcast audio for various musical genres, maintaining a strong ear for balance and musicality. Familiarity with DiGiCo consoles is a strong asset.
• Lighting Proficiency: Demonstrated ability in lighting hang and focus, electrical safety, and programming ETC digital lighting consoles. Direct experience with modern LED fixtures and moving lights is highly valued.
• Software Proficiency: Strong computer skills (Window & Mac OS) and familiarity with MS Office, Google Workspace and cue playback software. Experience with Creative Suites (Adobe, Affinity, DaVinci), DAWs (Reaper), SMAART and QSYS is an asset.

• Work Ethic: Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while remain a diplomatic, flexible and communicative team player.
• Time Management: Excellent time management skills with a demonstrated ability to work safely and efficiently under tight turnaround schedules.

Physical Demands, Safety & Logistics
• Physical Requirements: Ability to work comfortably at heights, climb ladders, use power tools and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Scheduling: Flexibility and willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings & weekends, based on event schedules.
• Licensing: Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
• Certifications: Asset having Fall Arrest, Aerial Lift, Standard First Aid, Pyrotechnics.

The Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre is a state-of-the-art facility located on the University of Alberta’s Augustana Campus in Camrose, Alberta.
