PlayStation Plus July 2026 free games lineup announced, including Modern Warfare 3

On Wednesday, Sony Interactive announced the free PlayStation Plus Essential games for July. Subscribers can download Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, For the King 2, and CrossCode beginning Tuesday, July 7.

Here’s the July 2026 PlayStation Plus free games lineup:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the 2023 entry in the long-running FPS franchise. The Modern Warfare subseries was rebooted in 2019 with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and continued with a sequel in 2022. Modern Warfare 3 was originally designed as an expansion pack for its predecessor, but was eventually turned into a full-fledged release for the annual Call of Duty machine, which might be why its campaign was so derided. It follows Task Force 141 trying to stop World War III. Multiplayer is likely where you’ll spend the bulk of your time, and Modern Warfare 3 also includes a Call of Duty: Warzone-like Zombies mode.

For the King 2

For the King 2 is an RPG adventure that blends together elements of roguelikes and tabletop games. You can play solo or via four-player co-op as you fight against an oppressive queen and her regime, with the 30-hour campaign split between seven different adventures. New to For the King 2 is a battle grid as positioning is key to succeeding in the game’s turn-based battles.

CrossCode

CrossCode is a retro-inspired action RPG with graphics straight from the SNES days. It touts “Zelda-esque dungeons” and lightning-quick combat throughout a sci-fi adventure that could last anywhere between 30 and 80 hours. Fight over 120 different enemy types across seven massive dungeons while conquering over 100 quests. CrossCode is nothing if not packed with things to do, and players have loved it for that; it has over 10,000 “very positive” reviews on Steam.

You can still grab June free PlayStation Plus Essential games — Grounded Fully Yoked Edition, Nickelodeon All Star Brawl 2, and Warhammer 40,000: Darktide — through July 7.

PlayStation Plus Essential is the lowest tier of Sony’s subscription game service. It offers online multiplayer access, a monthly assortment of free PS4 and PS5 games, cloud storage, and discounts on PlayStation Store purchases. PlayStation Plus Essential costs $79.99 annually, $27.99 for a three-month subscription, or $10.99 monthly, following a price hike across all tiers of PS Plus in May.
