Clothing-optional beaches in and around Vancouver where you can strip down to your birthday suit

24 July 20263 Mins Read

The weather is really heating back up again, and now is the perfect time to get rid of any pesky tan lines you may have acquired over the summer thus far. With a bit of a cool-down in the forecast this weekend, the sunshine and high temps will be back mid-week next week. Before or after a couple of rainy days poke through, here are some clothing-optional beaches in and around Vancouver to visit.

Of course, we have to start off with the most famous clothing-optional beach in the area: Wreck Beach at UBC. It’s arguably the most well-known clothing-optional beach around, and a popular destination regardless of whether or not you decide to shed your layers. Known for being a bit of a trek down 490 steps, the beach offers a mix of sun, sand, rocks, and shady forested trails.

The legally nude shoreline stretches over five kilometres, so there’s plenty of space to carve out your own little area. Even on the busier days, there’s still plenty of beach nooks to take in the views. Plus, it’s a great sunset spot!

Where: NW Marine Drive and University Boulevard

A mix of sandy and rocky beaches, Three Mile Beach is located on Okanagan Lake between Penticton and Naramata. A small peninsula juts out into the lake, and it’s here that local nudists eventually won over the legal attempt to make it clothing-optional. Part of the beach, that is.

There are two distinct beaches on either side of the peninsula, which meet in the middle. The first beach facing away from Penticton is clothing-optional, boasting fine sand and stunning views. The second beach faces Penticton and is a bit rockier, but no less beautiful to settle in for a picnic and a swim.

Where: Okanagan Lake at Three Mile Road, just off Naramata Road

The Nude Beach Map lists Crescent Rock Beach as clothing-optional, but Redditors have clarified that it’s actually the spot in between Crescent Beach and White Rock Beach that’s considered birthday suit-friendly. To get there, you’ll drive down 16th Avenue all the way to the end, going down what locals call “the 1,001 steps,” but is actually just over 300 steps. Once you reach the beach, you’ll walk north on the rocks, where you can be in the nude.

Another nudist spot is accessible via the Christopherson Steps, after which point visitors can cross the overhead tracks and turn left upon arriving at the beach.

Either way, Crescent Rock Beach is an underrated beauty for sunset viewing. Just make sure to pack your water shoes, as the area gets pretty rocky!

Where: Near the end of 24th Avenue in South Surrey
