Calgary’s oldest street festival is returning with hundreds of vendors and a pet pageant

30 July 20263 Mins Read

Marda Gras is returning to Marda Loop this August, bringing Calgary’s oldest street festival back for a full day of summer fun. The streets will transform into a car-free celebration, where you can shop local, catch live performances, grab something to eat, and soak up the neighbourhood’s atmosphere.

With more than 250 vendors, four stages of entertainment, and the fan-favourite pet pageant, there’s plenty to check out throughout the day.

Now, let’s take a further look at some of the things you can expect to see at the festival.

What you’ll find at Marda Gras

Celebrating 41 years in Marda Loop, Marda Gras has become a beloved Calgary tradition that brings the community together every summer. According to organizers, the festival has grown into one of the city’s biggest street celebrations, giving locals a chance to support small businesses, enjoy live entertainment, and meet other members of the community.

This year, Marda Gras will take over 33rd Avenue SW, with a full lineup of activities for all ages. You can check out four stages of entertainment featuring dance performances, live music, and a new stage in the Kids Quarter.

One of the festival’s biggest crowd favourites is the Pet Pageant, which will take place on the main stage. Pet owners can dress up their furry friends in their best costumes and show them off. Registration is $25, and all proceeds will go towards Parachutes for Pets, a local animal shelter here in Calgary.

Along with the entertainment, Marda Gras will feature more than 250 small businesses, local artisans, food trucks, and community organizations throughout the festival.

Marda Gras timing and details

If you’re planning to check out Marda Gras this year, the festival will take over 33rd Avenue SW between 18th and 22nd Streets on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The entire event is completely free to attend, so you can drop by whenever works best for you and spend as much time exploring the festival as you’d like.

Since Marda Gras is a car-free festival, many of the neighbourhood’s streets will be closed during the event. Getting to Marda Gras is easiest by walking, biking, or taking transit. And if you’re coming in from a little further away, there will be a free shuttle running between the festival and the Military Museums, where attendees can park and ride.

So if your summer schedule isn’t already full, consider adding Marda Gras to your calendar!

When: Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026
Time: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: 33rd Ave. SW, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: Free
