Popular Coffee Chain Announces the Return of a Fall Flavor Fans Wait All Year For

Honeycrisp apple is coming back to Caribou Coffee.

The chain will bring back its fall menu in coffeehouses nationwide on Thursday, Aug. 20, according to a press release shared with Parade. The Aug. 20 launch lands one day after Dunkin’ opens its own pumpkin season.

What’s Coming Back at Caribou

Six returning drinks are confirmed so far, split down the middle. On the pumpkin side: the Pumpkin White Mocha, made with white chocolate melted into steamed milk and finished with whipped cream and white chocolate chips; the Pumpkin Espresso Shaker, shaken with ice and topped with oatmilk; the Iced White Mocha with Pumpkin Cold Foam; and the Pumpkin Latte, dusted with ground nutmeg. The Mocha, the Shaker and the Latte are each made with real pumpkin.

The apple half brings back the Honeycrisp Apple Caramel Espresso Shaker and the Honeycrisp Apple Caramel High Rise Latte, both made with real caramel sauce.

“Even if the calendar still says summer, our guests are already dreaming about fall,” Carrie Sazama, Caribou’s director of product, said in the release.

Why Honeycrisp Is the Hometown Pick

The apple is not a random choice for a chain that started in Minnesota in 1992. The University of Minnesota’s breeding program released Honeycrisp in 1991, a year before Caribou opened its first coffeehouse. Minnesota named it the official state fruit in 2006.

It also fills a gap. Starbucks’ fall lineup, runs on pumpkin, pecan, banana bread and a new cider-inspired Chaider, with no Apple Crisp drinks in sight.

Caribou says new beverages, seasonal food, packaged coffee and merchandise are still to be announced. Its free Caribou Perks program lets members earn points toward free drinks and food. For now the date is the news: Aug. 20, across more than 800 coffeehouses.
