Rush's Geddy Lee Gives One-Word Answer to New Music Question Amid Sold-Out Tour

7 August 20262 Mins Read

While Rush fans are loving everything about the ongoing Fifty Something reunion tour, they just got some unfortunate news from Geddy Lee. In a new interview, he was asked about the possibility of new music from the current lineup of the band. But the answer wasn’t what fans hoped for.

Lee spoke with Chile’s Radio Futuro, transcribed by Blabbermouth.net, and talked about how much hard work and time went into the 2026 tour. The interviewer then asked about new music, with Lee bluntly responding, “No.”

He elaborated, “We have enough to do. We’re still trying to remember the old songs and play them,” noting how much work they currently have on their plate with the ambitious concerts.

Earlier in the interview, Lee talked about how much they rehearsed before the shows. He declared, “People think you can just walk up on stage and play three hours’ worth of those songs. I’ve got news for you — even the guys that wrote those songs have to work really hard to perfect them.”

They also had to give new drummer Anika Nilles the time to learn 43 songs, including plenty of very complicated drum parts.

Lee praised Nilles’ dedication to the job, saying, “She’s a brilliant player technically, but she’s also a brilliant person, and so she understood the gravity of what she was taking on, and she’s able to rise above the difficulties and deliver.” Nilles took on the role of tour drummer in the wake of longtime drummer Neil Peart‘s death.

Rush is currently in the middle of their Fifty Something world tour, which completely sold out. They’ve impressed fans with every show, playing a bunch of songs that haven’t been heard in years.

The tour is the band’s first in 11 years. It includes over 75 stops throughout 2026 and 2027. It began in June 2026 in Inglewood, Calif., and will conclude in April 2027 with the last show in Helsinki, Finland.
